DB9 Coil packs - Surprise!
Discussion
2005 DB9
Half way through the Spark plug, coil pack PCV valve changeout, an ideal 'lockdown' job!
Anyway, I've found the job surprising straightforward thanks to Steve McEvoys excellent videos on YouTube, but on opening up the covers on the cylinder heads, and expecting to find 2 pin coil packs, I found these instead!
Now, the engine is original to the car as far as I can tell, it one of the early Cosworth engines and I thought 3 pin coil packs were only fitted sometime around 2007 on, so having already bought a set of 2 pin packs, I now have to go out and spend another small fortune on a set of 3 pin ones.
So moral of this story is to wait until you've opened up the covers before ordering the parts, as in the word of Forest Gump, 'you never know what you're going to get'

Mines a June 2005 , 2 wires , 2 pins, I thought 3 pin came 07 , 2 pin NGK coils less than 20 quid each, jag s type , I wonder if there’s a jag s type with 3 pins, or some other Ford jag option,
search db9 coils and pcv valves,
Ngk 48120, you have to change the rubber boots and contact spring but it’s easy, if you search db9 coils and pcv about 5 th down begins 17 may 2019, I’ve done a bit of a write up, also go to Steve’s website Aston 1936.com he’s done an excellent step by step.
I also upgraded plugs , inlet manifold gaskets will go again saving 200 plus, if I were doing it again I would replace not only the Ford pcv valves but also the pcv pipe harness, it contains some rubber duckbill one way valves which can go hard and fall to bits inside the pipe.

Your car may of had an engine replacement earlier in its life when reconditioned units were not available, brand new engines were sent out including all parts fitted , coils , wiring , ect ect.
I thought that by the engine number seems original. Apparently there are early cars with a three pin setup like mine, so its just a word of warning that you might not know for sure until you get the covers off.The 3rd pin is apparently a grounding wire
Hi there...New to this Forum having been signposted by a DB9 owner who said there may be people on here needing DB9 coil packs. I did the same as the original poster on here...went with what I thought mine should be on the part number...as it was far too cold and wet to venture to the garage...and low and behold after a long search came up with the wrong part!...lesson learned there.
I have a V8V and mine are actually 3 pin but a slightly different style...so...having sold part of my original batch to the very nice person who signposted me here....I now have FIVE BERU ZS388 OEM coil packs for sale. I'm only looking to get cost back out if them so looking to sell around 59gbp each.
They came from Euro Car parts who sourced them in batches so suffice to say they have non left in the UK stock. They have Euro stickers and sale date 8 Jan 2021 .
These are identical to three pin DB9 Aston ones and made by manufacturer who supplied originals. They have the correct boot, spring and what looks like a suppression device in the spring. Mail.me if interested skiyfly@aol.com
