New Owner saying Hello - SP10
Discussion
Hi all,
am a new member to the fold having just bought a lovely SP10 with the usual nice spec they came with. Being a motorsport buff i was always drawn to the S or N variants and didnt know an SP existed until i got really into Vantages through the book and website visits. Always been a big fan of AM and especially their racing heritage.
I was watching the market for 6 months before i took the plunge. Only driven it about 100miles so far but already smitten...whats not to love!
Was a bit surprised insurance was so steep for one of these considering i have been driving performance cars for 20+ years and had a clean license and decent post code. But it was all a bit rushed so may get a better deal next year. Twice the price of a Cayman R to insure?!
Is AMOC worth joining?
regards
Mark

Hello,
A wonderful car. Am sure that you must be thrilled.
The Vantage is beautiful to look at, every drive is an occasion and for those of us who like traditional driving, an end of era car to be treasured.
I will mention insurance, just in case it might be helpful to you.
10 years ago, I arranged cover through a local broker, about £750.
I wanted an established name insurer and also freedom to have my own choice of repairer.
After a couple of years I went directly to the same insurer, which reduced the premium.
Then changed to NFU for an even lower premium, but after about 3 years, as many on here also found, they suddenly trebled their prices. Pretty mean, especially as I had only driven 200 miles during that( first COVID year.
Am now back with the original insurer (direct). They even reduced the premium (without me speaking to them) at last renewal to £243, which seems reasonable to me.
With insurance premiums, much of course depends on many factors, especially where we live and whether the insurer wants the business, so often cannot compare with others.
Enjoy your Aston Martin.

Nice example! I forgot about the SP10. Manual or SportShift?
Regarding the AMOC, it depends on the activity in your area. I find Area 22 (Gloucester) to be amazingly active thanks to the key people who run it in that region. Lovely group of people when we meet. Avoid the club central politics at all costs. Club magazines and website are OK, but not a big enough reason in isolation to join. National meetings including sprint concours and heritage festivals are excellent. So for the £100-odd quid, most likely worth it for you

Lovely car. @LBS: I think it’s the wide angle shot of the first picture which gives that impression.
Regarding AMOC, I’m a member of the French section, a great group and some great roads but yes probably depends from which section you depend.
Maybe worth trying for a year to see if you like it.
Anyway congratulations on your new car and enjoy the miles!

Gorgeous car but to my eyes it doesn't look to be sitting right.
Does it have wheel spacers on??
Also the ride height looks too high or do I need to go to Specsavers ????
funny you mention that as i did think it was a little gappy when i first saw the photos, but pleased to say it sits nicely on its haunches in the flesh, and looks mean and purposeful. Maybe it had been up on the ramps or jacked just before the pics were taken?Does it have wheel spacers on??

Its an SS2 gearbox, which surprisingly (to me) is what i was after for this one. I was always a manual diehard until i got the Cayman R and its sporty pdk convinced me how good a paddle shift auto can be. Car will be doing regular euro tours as well as fun duties so best of both worlds. I still have a classic 911 for my manual shifting fun ;-)
Thanks for the welcomes

Perfect car! Wheel gaps etc are all spot on, amazing how fcked up everything looks through a phone camera wide angle lens
AMOC is brilliant if you have an active area. I’m in 22, Gloucestershire like Nick, who posted above. Mainly Gaydon era cars and loads going on. Certainly worth a try for a year. You’d be most welcome to attend any of our events in the Cotswolds.
Re insurance, I’ve switched between Admiral and Classic Line over the years. I go on price more than anything.
Have fun in your amazing car!

I had a viewing on that car, it was “reserved” for me and then got told the day before travelling 150 miles to view view (and having made arrangements to free up time) it has been sold to someone else !
Not a good reflection on McGurks in my opinion.
Ended up buying a Vantage V12S from Aston Works instead…
Enjoy the SP10 - lovely spec.
