This looks glorious. I wonder why they were never badged as a Lagonda as 4-door Astons had traditionally been. Maybe the marketing guys had concerns about brand awareness.

Whatever, someone is likely to end up with a real beauty to ferry the family around in, assuming that the ‘digital history’ can easily be verified?

Yes indeed. 'Rapide - the forgotten Aston'.

Why is it in an auction I wonder?

What a beautiful car, in a gorgeous colour and lovely interior spec! A good detail will bring that back to near perfect condition. Low mileage too.
I wonder what it will sell at ...

I sold mine after 3 years of ownership and still regret it, the best car I have ever owned, and my replacement Bentley Continental GT V8S with Mulliner driving pack was pretty sedate and boring afterwards. The nearest I can find is £67k for a model 2 years newer. Given that you are buying with no warranty and a big service due, and probably a big bill, I think it should make circa £50k.

Just had notification this one is live.
It's a great colour inside and out, I'd be very tempted, just not quite yet!
I think the S is worth holding out for, they seem the better car. I just wish there were more cars in a colour scheme and fewer in greyscale.

Are you looking at the same car?

The red one on C&C, subject of the thread, is an S.

Yes, perhaps it's just how it reads on reflection. The S is the one to have and that one is an S.

Well, I got the judgement wrong! £60500 final bid! Still very cheap car compared to the Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth last weekend.

Something I have noticed about the Rapide is that there are some really rough ones out there . It always seems to me that handbuilt anything has the capacity to decline at an alarming rate should it suffer even the slightest neglect . Dont get me started about TVR moan

Good analogy. An Aston is a TVR for people with deeper pockets. But the TVR is 10x simpler.

If I move away from Aston it's more likely to be because I grow tired of it constantly going wrong, rather than the basic running cost. It is by a factor of 10 the most unreliable car I've ever owned. Hate to think what it would have been like without the full (ie annual) AMSH...

Do Bentleys break every month?

I feel sorry for you John. You have been unlucky.
After 10 years with my Vantage, only three parts have required fixing.
Saying that might be tempting fate though, but I get the impression that good reliability is experienced by many owners.

I hope now that the reliability will be better and you can then have more confidence in your beautuful car.

Would those 3 parts be engine, gearbox and electronics?

It did seem to make all the money compared with others of the same age and mileage. But I suppose if you don't want a greyscale car then you could be waiting for quite a long time.
