Vanquish pre 2015 model vs later

Hi all.

As I continue down my Aston Martin rabbit hole, I've all but decided that a vanquish might be the best all round option for myself.

A nice 2015 model car seems to be £75k for a 50,000 mile one, to circa £85k for a 20,000 mile

Earlier cars, none 8 speed, seem to come in at about 10-15k less.

Bar the gearbox and ECU, are they the same car? I'm starting to think the 8 speed is the better buy?

There are numerous threads already on this. There was one only a few weeks ago. To save you the bother of searching for information, the 8 speed is a little quicker than the 6 and has better fuel consumption due to the gearbox ratios (due to emissions rules), power is up slightly. Thats about it as far as I'm aware. The price difference between the two seems to be narrowing a little, it used to be around £20k, a chunk of that will be age related. I expect you will probably end up 'no worse off' with either the 6 or 8 in terms of depreciation, both lovely cars to own and drive. I'd buy a decent 6 over a untidy 8 every time, so its really down to budget.

The most recent seems to have been in Jan? Might be my poor google skills.

This will help. Stiffer dampers front and rear, tweaks to steering and brakes, +3 bhp. Main thing is 2 more ratios meaning quicker acceleration, higher top end and better economy.

Ive an 8 speed 2017 Volante and love it. My only contribution is post 2015 ish has AMI III so has car play if thats on consideration for you.

MY16 introduced AMi II (which can be upgraded at cost to AMi III)

MY17 introduced AMi III - firmware upgrades to the final version should be FOC from your main dealer.

I’ve been looking at a 2014 Vanquish today at Land Rover Knutsford. Done 9,500 miles.

Always fancied an AM but have no knowledge or experience of the marque - more a heart over head process.

Does anyone know this car or have any thoughts / advice.

I’ve retired so only do about 5,000 miles a year now and a bit torn

That stopped making that version of the Vanquish in 2006, they they started making the new version in 2013 (2014 model year).

Indeed, I was about to say somebody at land rover is taking the micky i think claiming thats a 2014 vanquish! 2004 maybe….

The generation 1 vanquish as lovely as it is has attracted a reputation for being somewhat fragile and costing a fair bit to keep in tip top condition.
I can't say whether that's a deserved reputation or not as I've never iwned one but it seems a common message when googling.
The Gen 2 cars are probably the complete opposite with nothing more than occasional niggles and are pretty robust.
If serious about a gen 1 car I'm.sure there are members here who can give the low down in greater detail as to what needs checking.
