Question on a Vanquish purchase

Hello,
I am in the market for a AM310 Vanquish Volante and I reside in the U.S. I have found a 2016 Carbon Edition and a 2017 Vanquish Volante. Both have 8K miles and black exterior. Both cars are fully loaded and asking in the USD 160k area. Should I factor in the Carbon Edition because of rarity? Or go for the newer model year? Depreciation is always a factor but I do like the way the CE looks a little better. I read that only 63 CE were built,but I don't know if that number includes both coupes and Volantes. Thanks for any help.

Wow great first post. So many different factors. I always believe buy the newest and best for the money you wish to spend.
Given you are in the US then it depends where you are located - if you are somewhere sunny and warm then surely it has to be a Volante? If one of the colder areas where you see bitter long winters then how much use will you get out of either?
What sort of driving do you enjoy?

There is nothing particularly rare or desirable about Carbon Edition relative to a normal Vanquish, especially one carefully and tastefully specified which is more likely to be unique. Buy the one you like the most.
Indeed, and the 2017 has the newer and improved AMi III, whereas the 2016 will have AMi II (which can be upgraded at a fairly hefty cost to AMi III however). But yes, buy the one you like the most is the best advice!

It deffo would not have come with AMi III, it would have been AMi II - but of course a previous owner may have paid to upgrade it, so that could be right.Edited by AdamV12V on Sunday 26th March 18:17

Yes and yes. AMiII has a Garmin based satnav bolted on in quite a clunky way. AMiIII has a higher res much better integrated satnav, but much more importantly III has Carplay whereas II doesn’t. I upgraded II to III at an AM dealer at a price which was frankly eye watering (it’s a hardware and firmware upgrade, which mildly helped rationalise the pain) and yet within 5 mins of driving away from the dealer I’d forgotten about the cost completely. It transforms the car from something with aged ICE to something state of the art.

ThanksI think I'm going to purchase a 2017 with low miles (5K). It seems like the going rate for one of these
beauties is about 10 percent higher in the States. Maybe the cost of doing business and transportation.
Anyway everything being equal I think the advice of many here,"buy the newest year you can afford",
makes a lot of sense to me.
Over here they use the term "hacking" for these Astons because of the large depreciation.
The sweet spot tends to be 7K to 15K miles,clean, no accidents,service records,and a car that has some curb appeal.
I guess then they hope to drive it and then flip it for a profit.
I think they will bury me in mine.
