Hi everyone,

I have been looking at gen 2 8 speed Vanquishes for about a year and have really been waiting for either a cobalt or mako blue one to come up for sale as these are my preferred colours.

I have arranged to view this car at the weekend and wondered whether anybody knew anything about it? The current reg is J55 OOV and the original is LF15 SVT.

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202302013...

I have a few concerns just from viewing the ad but am conscious of how rare blue cars are so have still not ruled it hence going to have a look. They are:

1. It is not yet 8 years old yet has had 6 previous owners
2. The Vanquish badge is missing from the rear end so I suspect that it may have had some paintwork repairs at some point
3. The rear lights both have signs of condensation. Is this a big issue and can they be repaired or is replacement the only option as I imagine that they are very expensive to replace and that's if you can get them?

Thanks in advance.

That car has been listed for a little while, its a really nice colour. The 40k miles will put off a lot of buyers (I dont see it as an issue if it has been maintained correctly, these cars are better for being used, 5 or 6k a year is very reasonable).

Previous owners, I wouldnt give that too much weight because with these cars they sometimes get changed annually, but MOT history will be more relevant.

The rear badge is there on the photos?

I haven't seen condensation on vanquish rear lights before and havent heard of it being an issue?

Thanks for the reply - the Aston 'wings' badge is there but not the 'Vanquish' logo badge. I have found photos of the car on the internet so I know that it had one originally.

Big difference in colour between those 2 blues but the cobalt one does stand out - I’m a big fan of yellow painted callipers.
Don’t think mileage is extreme - 5 or 6 per year is about average for an Aston according to most dealers.
Number of owners does seem a bit on the high side to me but if full service history etc not sure a major issue.
Rear Vanq badge might have been deliberately removed by one owner - I took the off the model badge on 2 of my Astons - as preferred the look - would have thought a new badge isn’t too hard to get put back.
Interior seems a bit plain but that’s just personal opinion.

Multiple owners may not be a worry.
My car had several owners during the first two years.
It did not concern me though, because when looking at the condition inside and out, everything looked like new.
Any careless owners would probably have at least scratched the interior.

Some buyers of these cars, appear to want to try something for a few months, then move on to their next exciting car.
Good for the dealers. Sometimes they sell the same car multiple times.

In the case of my car, the original owner was posted abroad by his employer, then the owner before me made the mistake of revisting his dealer, just a few months after purchase for some minor reason and was tempted/persuaded to buy an even better Aston Martin. - smile

Thinking about that, there was a joke about a very successful salesman at Works.
Was he putting something in the coffee, that made people say, "Yes, I'll take it" ? -- smile

smile The Barista - not even a joke.
Now working at JLR Heritage ( for the second time ) - still a top chap but the coffee isn’t as persuasive.

Just bought a car at JLR Classic in Coventry and wondered what the Barista’s name was?
Sorry for the off topic. Vanquish looks great, I don’t see anything wrong with it. Badge could have been taken away by an owner preferring the boot without a badge.

My thoughts pretty much echo what others have said. Number of owners shouldn’t be too much of a concern, but I would check that the car has an extensive service history, and has all the right stamps in the book, considering the relatively high mileage. Not that the mileage should be a problem after eight years, but it’s towards the higher end of the spectrum I guess. I’d also get the brakes checked out as a precaution. The boot badge may simply have been removed, as many prefer the cleaner look. It’s not necessarily a sign of any remedial paintwork. I would delve a little deeper in to the condensation in the rear lights. I’ve not heard of it before on Vanquish, but it is a fairly common problem on Gaydon era Vantage, and some people try the home DIY fix in the oven etc, but more often than not the only real solution is to get new light units. They aren’t cheap for Vantage, so I would assume they would be more expensive for Vanquish, and are possibly more difficult to fit. Other than that good luck with the purchase should you decide to take it further. Cobalt Blue is a lovely colour and it suits the car well. The yellow calipers look great too.

Best Regards

I've just bought a 2015 vanquish.

I did see that one and did think about it.

for the money, its good value. 40k isn't far off. there's a black/black car with a similar number of miles for the same price.

I'd have this over the black one.

They all seem to have a few owners. if this was a gt3 it'd have 13 or more.

from a main dealer with 20k less miles and a years warranty, was £93k.

So I think this is very fairly priced.

That looks fab in cobalt blue, just the interior is a bit drab (imo). Seems a fair price for a 'higher' mileage car but it's all relative.
Check the brakes as the CCM's aren't cheap, if they've not been abused should still have plenty of life in them.
The rear lights do seem to have condensation in them which is concerning, new lights are £3500 a pop!
Other than that its just the usual condition, wear and tear to consider.
The V5 was last issued on 17/6/21, so maybe when the last owner acquired it.
It's still taxed which is surprising for a car in the trade.
MOT history has nothing of concern in it.
Check the service history to make sure there's no big gaps.
Other than that enjoy biggrin

I debadged my Vanquish - kept getting in the way when I was cleaning the car. I think it fell off at some point. I still have it but prefer the look without.

At some point one of my rear lights was replaced for condensation BUT the actual issue was a faulty boot seal alllowing water ingress to the boot so I would check for damp in there.

Mako Vanquish? How many of them were built? Never seen one. Would love to see!

There was another popped up, made me feel a little sick after seeing the price, then I saw the interior and realised why…

That's shocking on a car being advertised at over £80k! Unfortunately, pictures can tell a thousand lies... even with detailed pics, it's impossible to truly determine condition without laying eyes on the actual car. So infuriating when you're lied to over the phone ("the car's mint mate"), pics look great, then you excitedly travel 2 hours to see it, cash deposit on hand, and it's a shed. Don't you just love buying a used car?!

A couple of thoughts for you
1. Multiple owners can be seen as a good thing for these types of cars. Namely most people won't buy them without a pucker warranty on them and every time it's sold it's likely to have been fully warrantied so it's probably spent most if not all it's life with a good warranty on it so gives a bit of reassurance that essential work would have been done. Low owner cars aren't necessarily the same as owners will often self insure and are thus less likely to insist on works being done when they have to pay.

2. The rear lights condensation does occur occasionally and my experience is usually just after its been washed and disappears within minutes of driving off. I've also seen it when a car has been left idling for a long time on a cold day where exhaust gasses can cause a misting up too, again it disappears as soon as you get going.

Good luck with the viewing and neither of these points would put me off personally. As for the badge, thats slmost certainly just a personal thing or just as likely nicked by kids if parked somewhere less than desirable.

Totally agree, this caught my eye and would be the one I would most likely consider if I were in the market for a Vanquish.
