I am planning to give my handbrake calipers a bit of a refresh, as such I was looking for a new set of pads to fit in the freshly overhauled calipers.

The first thing I noticed is that the Aston parts are branded as Brembo, which are in turn stamped Textar on the backing plate. I'm sure this is common knowledge but I just bought a set of TEXTAR 2061005 for a heavily discounted £33.

I find it interesting that the same pads seem to be listed for pretty much all Astons with the Brembo handbrake calipers, regardless of if the car is fitted with carbon ceramic or steel disc's. I'm sure this is ok, but something about it doesn't feel right. Does anyone have any insight or experience with this?

The ceramic disc is used for the handbrake. It's perfectly suitable for static use, as would be any material with suitable coefficient if friction. Here's a ceramic brake kit currently on sale at AM bits.

As far as I’m aware the carbon ceramic discs are only for the main service brake rotors - the handbrake, being a separate, non-hydraulic system, uses steel discs in all cases.

Sorry - wrong marque. You delete yours and I’ve already taken car of the original incorrect post.
Just goes to show I should never post with half an eye and half a glass

After finding that the inner park brake pads had broken free from the backing plates on my Vanquish, I decided to do the work myself.

The pads are indeed Textar and have the exact same part number but not the Brembo logo. Mine cost me £44 delivered to France from ebay.

Interestingly, as the inner park brake caliper bolts are close to the shocks preventing the use of a socket and strong arm, I opted to remove the main caliper and disc so that I could wind back the park brake piston. It took me about 15 minutes per side and was very simple to do.
It also saved me taking the car back to my Indie in Macclesfield and probably saved quite a few quid.

Now, how did I know the inner pads were at fault on such a low mileage car. Well, my wife kept mentioning a sound when going round corners at very slow speed, I just happened to give the park brake a slight pull and the noise stopped, so I decided to investigate. That's when I found the problem. Fortunately the discs are still perfect.
