I am at the end of my wisdom- have a 2009vantage sport shift and I am having trouble with the primer pump coming on when door opens.
It is intermittent and works fine for a period and then goes dead
I have checked fuses, relays, no leak all new oil
Any good ideas?
I know the door handle has a sensor for the pump to kick in when opened - could this be it or is the pump dying
Thank you so much for any input

Hello Per

What is the result? Does the hydraulic pump not run at all? What happens when you go to start the car then select a gear?

Note that the pump you describe pre-pressurises the sportshift hydraulic system, and will only run when a door handle is touched if it needs to, ie there is insufficient residual pressure in the system.

The sensor in the handle, depending on model year and lock status will also IIRC initiate activation of other systems, some elements of the display, window drop, internal lights etc.

Lastly, remember there are other pumps where that can operate intermittently with significant variation dependent on system condition (internal leaks etc), fuel pump and the air pump operating the exhaust valves

I had an intermittent fault with the pump turned out to be the relay with pitted contacts, I swapped out for new, then has worked perfectly since. I know u said u checked- just my 2 pence worth! Cheapest fix ever on an Aston!
