2006 AM V8V Automatic Cruise Control
Discussion
Looking for any advice or experience on my 06 v8v and its cruise control. Just recently have started the engine and when I put her into 1st or 2nd gear it’s started going automatically into cruise control and maintains a speed of 15mph. I haven’t selected cruise control and have reset it so not sure what’s happening here. Any help much appreciated.
Firstly look at the buttons. Are they loose, stuck or got some liquid in or on them. You might need to remove the wheel and find a way to dismantle and gently clean the button internals/contacts
I’d hazard that control modules and other input sensors and devices are unlikely to be the issue due to fail safe protection. Are there any errors/lights/codes ?

All sounds a bit odd. Usually to get cruise working (on my '15 V8V at least) it requires two buttons/switches to be activated: the rocker switch on the back of the RH lower steering wheel switch module needs to be pressed to turn cruise on, followed by an operation of the "Set" button to set the speed. And, AFAIK, the cruise system will not normally operate below 20 mph. Changing gear or touching the brake will cause the cruise system to stop operating (but the system will still remember the "Set" speed). Cycling the ignition will reset the cruise system to "Off".This may be a stupid question, but are you sure it's the cruise control? On my car when I turn the cruise on then there is a small text indicator in the DIM saying "Cruise", but not sure if that's the case with very early cars.

It sounds as though you might be based in Wales.
Probably quite normal there now. -

If you look, it appears to be OP's first post on this forum, he's looking for help and he's probably not familiar with your own unique approach to providing assistance.
Thanks for the response Nigel - after 6 months of ownership it's never done a fast idle and go into this type of 'cruise control' feel. Cruise doesn't come up on the dashboard, only until I select it with the rocker button. So it's potentially the temperature recently that's been causing this. Sounds like it's not something to be concerned about if this is a normal fast idle!
