Have I lost my mind - DBS Superleggera

Just turned 40 and have always wanted an Aston - have 4 small kids and whilst i love my Volvo XC90 it doesn't quite tick all the boxes for a car so for balance am thinking of a supercar for my once a week 2hr each way commute and occassional messing around at weekend (taking kids to rugby and so on).
Tell me if im mad but DBS Superleggeras are looking tempting - I think the prettiest aston made since the DB4 GT Zagato, in fact the prettiest car made ever.
My concerns are: it is the best choice based on looks but is it too much power for an aging muppet, 2 is it going to be a hassle 3. it's left on my driveway will it rot?
Any others who have taken the plunge now they are in the 120k-150k range and been happy?

1. 40 is hardly ageing ... thanks for upsetting many on here

2. No it wont rot, I'm sure even if you leave it out on the drive you will do all you can to protect it given you want to pay out that amount of money.
3. It will be glorious for the commute you mention.
4. How much driving with kids will there be? it's not really a 2+2 ... But do you really need to carry kids after playing muddy football etc?
5. if you buy well, it shouldn't be hassle any more than any other car.

Yes - you are completely mad, but you only turn 40 once. Once you get to 41 you will see that it was a completely rational and sensible idea, and you will wish that you had done it years sooner. Aston's get under your skin, and once you have one you'll appreciate that, so get it bought. I've never owned one but a family member has one (same colour as below, but with ivory interior) and I've driven it. Thought it was fantastic personally, I'm well used to fast machinery but it has a serious amount of torque (they're torque limited in 1st/2nd/3rd) and once you're into 3rd and 4th, it just pulls like a train in the midrange. Comfortable too, and in my eyes it's one of the best looking Astons they've put out - lots of curves in the right places but nicely aggressive too with the trim waistline and wider haunches.

Not driven a DBS but I guess this advice still holds true just remember it s a v8/12 pushing the rear wheels only, so be a bit more careful coming out of junctions in damp conditions..
I talk as an aged muppet from experience. Very similar to the experience of driving any rear drive car in the eighties!! (In that particular circumstance only I hasten to add!)

The DBSS is aging really well. It s always been beautiful, but it s now stunning.
It s a big, wide car. Never driven one, but was an occasion to be driven in one. Just not as vocal as previous n/a Astons.
It ll continue to go down in value, but so what. So long as you use it regularly, it’s a great ROI

I did an Aston Martin Performance Driving Course in DBSS a few years ago at Millbrook and I thought it was a superb car. My own type of car was no longer available and a manual new Vantage wasn’t available either, so I selected DBSS as at the time it was the flagship model in the range. It’s a big wide car but once it’s on the move it shrinks around you and it’s surprisingly nimble for its size and weight. I think nowadays they offer tremendous value on the used market. I didn’t drive it on the road, so my experience may be skewed as a result. The only thing I didn’t really like was the digital instrument display which it shares with DB11 and new Vantage, but that’s certainly not enough to deter any purchase. Good luck with your search OP. My old DBSS is for sale at European Prestige, Ceramic Grey (now a £12k option on the new Vanquish!) with the diamond cut alloys looks the nuts when the light hits it properly. Had the car for 12 months and 4500 miles, took it on a road trip through France and Germany last summer where it really came into its own making rapid progress on the Autoroutes and Autobahns. Monumental power when it gets going, managed to do some drags against my 675LT (friend was driving that) on the quieter Autobahns and it was holding its own up to 125mph. As a thing to just cruise around in its hard to beat also, V12 has a lovely menacing growl to it even for a turbo engine. I used the back seats a bit as I have young kids and anyone up to 10 years old should be ok. Tbh I kind of regret letting it go but I needed to scratch the 992 GT3 itch so it made way, in a perfect world I would have kept it! If you are interested my old one is a lovely example and I found European Prestige solid to deal with.
