V12 engine teardown - 220k miles (350k km) and cat ingestion
Discussion
For those of you who enjoy engineering and like watching teardowns, etc. this video is of a Vanquish 2 engine that has covered 350,000 km and has suffered some serious catalyst ingestion (one of the ceramic cores has completely gone!).
The condition of the engine is astoundingly good considering the mileage and the cat damage and should be essential viewing for anyone who thinks the AML V12 is a fragile confection. However, it does show that cat ingestion is a real, if rare, thing (looking at you, Nicholas Mee). Part 2 of the video will be detailed inspection, so the video says - I can't wait.
It appears the engine has been sent to Hutson from a customer on the Continent and the plan is to rebuild it into a 6.5 litre by boring out and using liners, so an interesting project. I'll be putting the kettle on for this one.
I don't think this has been posted anywhere else on PH - if this is a duplicate let me know and I'll delete.
Usual disclaimers that I have no involvement with the car or Hutson Engineering and I'm not trying to drive traffic to their channel

A very interesting view and a great insight into the engineering of Aston V12's. Also of note is the authors mention of and reference to engines with Cat failure. They have clearly seen more than one with this issue. The need to effectively strip down and clean the parts wash bath to ensure all cat particles are removed before using it again was an interesting aside.
