I recently purchased a 2019 Aston Martin DB11 V12 that was repossessed, and several of the airbags had been deployed prior to my ownership. I’ve since replaced the pyrotechnic fuse at the battery, and I now have power to both the cabin and exterior lighting.

However, the vehicle will not start. There is no response from the starter—no clicks or cranking. I’ve cleared all stored fault codes, but one code consistently returns: U116987 (Vehicle Theft Alarm Sensor Module).

When attempting to start the car using the push-button, I receive a “Insert Key” message. I’ve also tried using the emergency key multiple times, but it does not enable the vehicle to start. The key fob battery is new, and the fob functions properly for locking/unlocking the doors and opening the trunk.

Any insight or guidance on resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I would guess that the car is equipped with a Falder safety switch that shuts off the engine control system—specifically the fuel pump - in the event of an accident and/or when the airbags deploy. I don’t know if your car has one or where it is located.

You mentioned that you used the emergency key. Did you mean this switch?

I assume your car has "keyless go"? If it has, have you tried using the "emergency start" procedure where you put the key in the hidden ignition switch?

I'm not finding any reference for a Faider safety switch on the db11 v12, only earlier models. If there is one, please let me know, as this sounds like it could resolve my issue.

I did try that with using the hidden ignition in the center console, but still nothing. Also tried doing a reset with the key, utilizing the off/on/off process several times, but no luck unfortunately.

When I had mine the battery state of charge was important and the car was sensitive to low battery so check the battery voltage.

Also, have a look at Matt Armstrong YouTube channel on the DB12, he had similar issues getting that started after the airbags went off. If I recall he had to replace the airbag module but it still required coding by the main dealer.

At this point, I'm doing as Matt did and putting the vehicle together as much as possible to see if It will turn over & start after. I put a new battery in it, but still no luck. Fingers crossed it works after getting it reassembled and the airbag module reset

Hi

If you message me I can help. If it’s been in a crash might need ECM crash data reset. I am an AM tech and seen this before.

Thanks

Velocity Vault regarding "I’ve cleared all stored fault codes, but one code consistently returns: U116987 (Vehicle Theft Alarm Sensor Module)." Can I ask what OBD Scanner you use to read and clear the faults, please. I've just bought a 2010 AM Rapide and it has a couple of little niggles I want to check out, I have used an OpCom on a Vauxhall Twin Top (Steel Roof Convertible)so have a little bit of knowledge but hopefully not to the point of being dangerous.

I'd greatly appreciate all the help you can provide. It has been in a crash (Left door hit & bags deployed). What's the best way to message you?
