Exterior door handle removal
Discussion
My door handle stuck yesterday, meaning I couldn t get into the car from the drivers side.
I ve since noticed these is no lens covering the LED and assume it s come apart and got wedged, causing the handle to jam.

I ve removed the door card and can get to two of the three nuts holding the assembly in place (top left and bottom), but can not get the final one out (top right).

There appears to be a silver aluminium piece that fouls the final bolt. So so can t get a socket in and wouldn t be able to get the handle assembly out.
I ve remove the one nut I can see holding said silver aluminium piece, but it won t budge. I also can t get my big, fat head inside the door cars to see any further. Any ideas folks?

And the offending bolt:

Have you got a copy of the workshop manual?

1-14-1 describes the process of removing the handle.

smokey mow - do you happen to have a link to the AM6 Vantage workshop manual?
Unfortunately not. I downloaded that from the files section of the Aston Martin DIY Facebook group.https://www.facebook.com/share/g/17jHRhwTfQ/?mibex...
They’ve got a lot of very useful files but nothing as recent as the AM6 from what I can see.

Many thanks for this Smokey Mow. I’ve sent you an email to ask for the link directly, if that’s ok? It won’t let me open outside the parameters of the forum. Thanks againhttps://lookaside.fbsbx.com/file/am-v8-vantage-wor...

Many thanks for sending the workshop manual through Mark, much appreciated. Hopefully my email back arrived. I got an error, but it still appeared in my outbox. It was nothing more than a thank you note though.
As you mentions 01.14 relates to handles and lock mechanisms, but doesn’t cover the exterior door handles (as you would except it to). It does cover the latch assembly though.
Looking through the contents table, 01.03 covers body closures, and there is a section there to disassemble the door card and disconnect everything (door control modules, door mirror multiplugs, etc).

Followed by this section, which is what I need to do:
27. Release inner and outer cable from external door handle (see Figure 9)
28. Remove nuts (x3) securing external door handle, remove door handle (see Figure 10)
29. Loosen upper nut, remove lower nut securing keylock mechanism to door frame.

The above is practically the full section, bar the boot, etc which isn’t relevant to this particular topic.

Looking at figure 6 in the attached screenshots (screenshot 3), you can see the door handle mechanism at the top left corner, partially obscured by the door skin. A more detailed drawing in figures 9 and 10.
I just don’t know how to get to it…
The aluminium part I mentioned yesterday is in fact the part of the lock mechanism for the door lock barrel. I managed to take the one bolt out of it at the bottom and move it out of the way. There is a lot of resistance, as it’s clearly attached to the stop something else you can’t see. And I suspect another cable.
I’ve managed to get the outer handle unbolted, repaired and replaced. Checked and that all works as it should. Including the LED handle light. However, as I’ve now dislodged the lock barrel, I can’t get that to line up with the barrel in the right place from the outside and the two bolt holes on the inside, due to the resistance!
These things are sent to test us, haha!
From figures 9 and 10, it looks like the inner door skin has been removed, which would make this a lot similar, but it seems to be a single piece, inside and out, Nathan that two pieces bolted together. So doesn’t seem like the inner part can be removed. Unless I’m missing something too obvious.

Thanks Paul, much appreciated. I’ll take a look through them all. I imagine the process is the same or very similar for all VH2 platform cars so there might be something in the DB9, DBS manuals etc that’s not as clear in the vantage one.https://db9s.com/db9-manuals-and-brochures/
Thanks again all. The saga still continues. Looking through the additional manuals DB9S provided, this is the section of the manual needed. It’s basically the picture on the bottom left, but doesn’t state how to get to the mechanism and very limited access.

This is basically what I’m working with from an access point of view:

So, essentially working by feel, and not enough room. To get a hand in, hold the lock barrel mechanism and attempt to get another hand it to feel for the bolt to add the nut to.
