Hi Guys

Please can you help? The HID bulb in my 2015 Vanquish has failed. I’ve looked in the hand book, it says the HID bulb is not replaceable. Is that the case, do any of you know if I can replace the bulb, or will I need to buy a new head lamp?

Thanks

Steve

The HID bulb is replaceable in the Vanquish, it is a standard D1S HID bulb,

Just make sure the lights are off when you change the bulb, and have been off for a few minutes. It's just Health and Safety gone mad!

That's interesting. My 2013 DB9 manual says the same thing, but then it listed the correct HID D1S 35W bulb under the "Specifications" section.
Not the 1st time these manuals are wrong - mine says I have 375 quarts of gas available, wow I wonder where they hid the other 305 quarts (288 Liters).

Here is a pic of the back of my headlight.

It might also be the driver/ballast which is attached to the underside and is a bit of a pain to get out. In 17 years of V8V ownership I had one ballast fail and no bulbs fail
If you can be bothered, it might be worth swapping the lamps side to side to validate whether its the lamp or driver.
As already mentioned make sure the lights are off, the strike voltages are quite high DC voltages for the HID bulbs

Thanks for the replies & advice, Good News I can change the bulb, I was a bit concerned I’d need a new head lamp. It could be the driver/ballast as I have noticed the light comes on, but is a very dim reddish colour, so it could be the driver/ballast, not the bulb. I’ll swap the bulbs over, easiest way to find out. Thanks again. Steve

I believe these d1s are easy to replace from inside the wheel liners. Good time to replace the bulbs with something better and brighter

Looks like you can source the XHB now for sensible money circa £50
https://xenons4u.co.uk/xhb-3502-xenon-hid-ballast....

I replaced one of these years ago on an 07 V8V and my notes read something like this

Access to the ballast is through the wheelarch liner. Best to remove the wheel 1st.
Remove the crappy cover at the back of the light (one flat head screw)and then bend it out of position. It's a bit of a lash up! You then remove the weatherproof back of the headlight assembly (2 flat head thumbscrews).
Then remove the two crosshead screws that secure the liner to the bumper.
You can then do all the work through the side of the liner. Trust me it doesn't break when you bend it out of the way!
You'll then need the smallest 5.5mm socket and ratchet you can find and a bit of patience/dexterity to remove the three screws on the underside of the headlight unit. I managed not to drop any of the screws in the bumper!
The ballast then pulls out of the bottom of the lamp.
Two connectors and insert new unit.
Once practiced it's about an hour job.
