…. Wish me luck.

It’s an itch that’s been getting worse over the years and I’ve decided now is time to take the plunge.

Good luck! Go for it. Always liked these.

I have an S2000 and the RX8 is sort of the “family” equivalent.

Make sure you pop on www.rx8ownersclub.co.uk to see if any loved examples are for sale.

Love my 8.

I'll keep you all posted. Already on the OC forum and doing lot of reading about compression figures.

There's always Chris down at ReWorx in Portsmouth who knows these cars inside out might be worth having a chat to him.

I reckon if VED was more reasonable on these and 350/370z's they would be hugely popular.

Good on you though.

I had an R3 a few years back, probably the best car I've had alongside my Elise. The engine is an absolute peach for B Road driving, so silky smooth and revs forever. Just a shame even on an eco run you won't crack 20mpg.

Ended up selling it and replacing it with the Elise, a lot less practical but was so much cheaper to run and maintain.

They are a great car and as long as you know what you are getting yourself into just go for it. 3 things i suggest - 1) find a good specialist to take care of it for you/rebuild when needed. 2) get AA/breakdown cover and 3) keep a bottle of oil and a small funnel in the boot.

completely standard car (well except wheels powder coated grey), 58K miles, good compression. has a few bumps and scraped, but ideal base for my purposes.

Loved my RX8, my problem was using a gallon of petrol to go to work and back and paying more in road tax than insurance.

Coil packs & plugs need to be good. Mine started to have problems and MPG dropped to 14MPG at best. New packs apparently and all was well ( It was just about to be sold when it started to have problems, the new owner sorted it)

Get an Sohn adapter for the combustion lubrication, then you can put some decent oil in the sump and protect the bearings properly.
