294HP/305FtLb is the max acheivable on the standard TD04 turbo...would require an uprated fuel pump, panel filter, 3"exhaust system(preferably de-cat), a de-cat turbo uppipe, remap using decent fuel ie shell v-power! if a sports cat is used octane booster could be used to compensate for the drop in exhaust gas flow and 290/290 should just about be acheivable
Turbo spoolup should be very fast on this setup
Reliabilty i wouldnt consider to be an issue at this level of tune as long as the remapping was gone correctly
Cheers

So...whats the max boost to be had out of the TD04 and at what revs does it max out and start tailing off.
I havnt got the dyno charts to hand but from memory it was around 1.35bar at 100% wastegate duty....and around 20-25 degrees of ignition advance mapped on Bio-methanol fuel
Think its safe to say that was about all it was going to give on a standard wrx engine

Thanks for that...Not bad for such a small turbo, 19.5psi is OK although i think standard internals will take 22psi max, maybe a bit more with a TD04 Hybrid or TD05, i don't know. I have for now managed to squeeze 16psi/1.1bar target boost on standard fuelling and slightly advanced timing, with a standard exhaust and all cats in place, except the GrpN backbox and a green flat panel filter.
Once i have the rest of the anti-lag grpN exhaust i will try and squeeze a bit more out. I run it on Tesco99 RON or Vmax when i can't get the Tesco fuel. I am enjoying doing my own mapping at the mo, slowly and carefully learning my way around, good fun though.
I can see why you blokes get a kick out of doing this.

You should try adding a bit of methanol to the fuel whilst mapping....you wont beleive the difference in performance

What about water / Methanol injection? - Affordable? - Worthwhile?
Bio-ethanol blend?
Is a full de-cat insurable?? - Is Methanol insurable?
Have you experimented with chilling the Methanol mix before injecting (via aircon circuit)?

I'm going to keep it on pump fuel if possible with the possibility of adding some octane booster to the mix now and again so i can get a little bit more advance and a touch more boost before knock. What i really want to happen is for E85 to become widespread and easily available, then i don't mind spending a few quid changing all the fuel lines etc..., due to the fact the E85 has corrosive properties.
Then we'll see some proper timing advance and full boost on tap

P.S. Where do you get the methanol from and how much do you add to a tank of pump fuel, or do you just run Methanol neat??

Not keen on water/metahnol injection...if your pump fails(which mine has once before)you could stand a good chance of getting a major bit of detonation...especially if your car has been mapped for it

E85 is awesome stuff....at around 104Ron it even outdoes BP102
We have done some tests on Methanol and found all it did was clean whatever parts we exposed it too...havent tried ethanol to comment, but cant see the results being that different
10-15% Methanol mix
