Hi Guys,
Laid my 1995 import wrx up whilst I developed my new business and now I come to start it, It will not have it!
I think that the cam sensor may be at fault!
Anyone know about these, and where I can get bits near to Birmingham.??
Cheers
Roy
Does it turn over ok? fuel pump working? could well be siezed as they are often sat about empty of fuel for months/years quite a common issue especially if been run dry.Laid my 1995 import wrx up whilst I developed my new business and now I come to start it, It will not have it!

It would be worth pulling the crank and cam sensors out and cleaning them - they get covered in iron filings (god only knows where from) since they are magnetic sensors.
Of course you may well need at least one new sensor, but cleaning is worth a go...
Any other sensors failing wouldn't stop the car from starting.
Have you looked at the fault codes? Connect the green under-dash connectors and turn the ignition on - watch the check engine lamp flash.

Easiest thing to do is first of all disconnect the battery for couple of hours. On the pre2000's that's the easiest way to reset the ECU. Later models it has to be done via ODBII (which is what i do via the laptop). Then try and start it but the battery must be fully charged as it will need a strong spark from having been idle for so long.
It shouldn't be the cam sensor as i had one go wrong on mine but it didn't stop it from starting.
Another possible may be the may be the MAF Sensor. Take it off, give it a clean with some meths or other solvent that evapoprates quickly and try again. If the MAF is faulty it won't start. Good luck

If the maf is knackered it will start but run very rough. I have seen 2 faulty cam sensors and 1 started but would not idle and the other would not start. It shouldn't be the cam sensor as i had one go wrong on mine but it didn't stop it from starting.

if you disconnect the cam position sensor the car wont start. so may be worth checking you connections.

I know plenty of people that have had naf MAF sensors and they couldn't even get the car to fire/start at all, and with others the car idles very badly, you can't raise any revs, then it konks out. As for the cam sensor i've not heard of one stopping the car from starting at all but then again there's always one

Most scoobs will start without a MAF at all, so it can simply be unplugged as a test. The car will use the emergency speed density mode in the ECU
You can use this all the time and have a MAF-less car if you are good with a hex editor, although the resolution is not good, so it doesn't make for a good daily driver...
Old Scoobs require the cam sensor so they know which plug to fire - I have seen no evidence of them switching to sparking 2 plugs in the absence of cam sync. Ones newer than 97 have wasted spark coils so don't need the camsync for sparks. That said, the Scoob trigger wheel patterns are damned weird with uneven tooth spacings and all sorts, so anything could happen.
