I've lurked for ages but at last I have a reason to post:
I've just bought a Legacy Spec B Sports Tourer, and for the most part couldn't be happier. Certainly it's got a lot more smiles per mile than my old 1.8T A6 did.
I've got a couple of questions though:
1. Although the speedo reads (say) 70mph, it feels much slower than that. I guess this could just be the fact it's a different car and it'll take a bit of getting used to, but I'm also certain that being overtaken was a reasonably rare occasion in the old car.
It has Satnav built in, but it would appear that the screen with the GPS derived speed is one of those which disabled when you're underway. I've tried driving at one of those "your speed is..." signs and comparing the indicated speed with the sign, and they're not that far off (<10%) but perhaps this is an intermittent issue. Mrs Sagnac agrees with me so I'm fairly certain I'm not making all of this up.
Are there any known issues with the speed sensor on the Legacy?
2. The gear stick (it's a manual) moves around a lot when the road surface is rough. There's no sense of it popping out of gear or anything, but I wondered if it's something I should be concerned about?
Cheers.

I'm really pleased with the car. We were actually sitting at lunch today in the office trying to decide which other car gave the same combination of understated looks, performance, reliabilty (I hope! - the Audi was a nightmare) and space. Even the fuel consumption isn't that bad - any difference between that and the Audi is more than made up with the enjoyment factor.

Good choice! I've owned my Spec B for 4 months now.
If you select the SatNav screen which displays speed (can't remember which screen off the top of my head, one of the configuration ones) while stationary and then drive off you will be able to see your speed via the wonderful world of GPS. I've found the speedo to be slightly higher than the GPS but I think this is pretty common across all makes and models. Not noticed any movement with the gear stick.
I'm still really enjoying the car. Traction and road holding are excellent (Bilstein dampers help there). It's quick (really starts to fly above 3000rpm), quiet, understated and has a solid quality feel. The climate control and extra large sun roof have been good when it's not been raining. Fuel economy could be better, I'm seeing 19 mpg around town up to 27mpg on the motorway but it's not too bad for a 3.0 estate.

Thanks. I'll give that a whirl next time I'm out.....If you select the SatNav screen which displays speed (can't remember which screen off the top of my head, one of the configuration ones) while stationary and then drive off you will be able to see your speed via the wonderful world of GPS. Mine definitely moves around more than I would have expected. Think I'll get it looked at.arcbeer said:

I'm seeing similar fuel economy too (and worse with
). Top car though!arcbeer said:
Forgot to ask. How do you find the space in the Legacy compared to the A6?
It's a wee bit smaller, but not much. The rear door apertures are definitely a bit smaller though (which can make it tight getting Sagnac Jr's car seat in and out). Not enough to make me want the Audi back though!Sagnac said:

Grip through corners is immense, could do with better side bolsters on the seat though
Really need to do a track day to find the limits, could be like the Volvo 850 touring car all over again
