Impreza wheel vibration
Discussion
Hi,
I'm getting wheel vibration above 80mph. It's not too severe but I'm also getting wear on the inner front tyres. I've jacked the car up and there's no obvious play on anything (bushes, balljoints, driveshafts, track rod ends) and there's no missing wheel weights. Experience of other cars points me towards either the balljoint or the wishbone bushes allowing the car to tow out at speed also causing the vibrations (not the same car but I've have exactly the same thing happen to the wife's v6 mondeo and swapping the wishbones out sorted the problem). As the balljoints and bushes are substantially more expensive than the mondeo (10 quid for the entire bone incl bushes and balljoint) is one thing (bushes or balljoint) more likely to have failed than the other so I can change them and see if it's fixed the problem?
Thanks,
Mark
PS. It's a my99 uk turbo wagon and all the suspension, wheels etc are standard.

My advice is to get your 4 wheels rebalanced and re-aligned with the geometry checked. Should cost no more than £45 to £50. Also, when re-balancing, ensure the guys check to see that the wheel is not bent!!

Thats what I did when my Impreza started doing as you describe and it worked.Ró
They seem very sensitive to tracking and even a small pothole can put it out of line.
Probably not worth balancing the rear wheels unless you plan on rotating them to the front at some point.
