What can be done to the 231 bhp RX-8 in the way of extra power?

Nothing very easily... in the UK there's only a handful of people who have fitted forced induction (see http://www.rx8ownersclub.co.uk/ ) Few more people in the US & Oz have had some success (see http://www.rx8club.com/ ) but none of it seems at all straightforward... Intakes and exhausts (short of de-catting) won't make much difference as the Mazda originals are actually pretty good.

Think TW Whites did have a N/A RX8 up to over 280 bhp by hacking the ECU and increasing the rev limiter (11000 rpm if memory serves) but they weren't so confident on reliability whistle

Biggest problem seems to be getting the ECU to do what you want it to...

Greddy turbo (as fitted by Tekken on RX8OwnersClub), there are a couple of supercharger efforts. Depends what you want - for real big power you could dump the Renesis and drop in a 13B.

I've been wondering the same, I was sadly disappointed when I drove an RX8 which had previously been at the top of my list. Since been looking at Monaro/HSV Clubsports but a boosted RX8 would swing me back again...

Nowt about really, it seems.

Definitely keep it rotary, I think the only engine swap suggested was to use a 13B turbo from an FD RX7. Good for easy 400BHP and plenty of torque.

I remember reading a feature on a supercharged RX8 with 300 odd bhp tuned by a company in Japan called Knight Sport.

Surely, there must be some such conversion here?

It is probably early days for aftermarket tweeks but have a look at Racing Beat's website. Rotechnics in Reading are UK agents for this stuff.

I think it depends on your goals and budget.

There is a nice upgrade that consists of an exhaust system, air filter, ECU upgrade and an electronic device that improves the throttle response. It will improve the performance at a reasonable cost.

There are also a couple of turbo kits available too if your needs and budget are higher.

Hope this helps a little smile

Greddy does a kit (among others), and there are some more goodies at http://www.tdi-plc.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=107...

Mazda Australia did claim to have produced a 375bhp turbo but nothing elsewas heard from it. Keeping it NA, even with a full race exhaust and induction system, it's unlikely you'd get more than 260bhp so FI is the only way to go. The Greddy system isn't particularly efficient or high pressure though. That may be a good thing for reliability on the otyher hand...

Speak to Tekken (William) on http://www.rx8ownersclub.co.uk/forum/  site.

He has a flipping fantastic car.
