Also posted in General Gassing but had no response so far

Right, I am in no way mechanically minded so need a bit of advice.

I have a Toyota MR2 that has been sat for about a month now and before it was sat it had developed a missfire, possibly due to water in the dizzy cap, but I havent had the time to sort it out. I have just been out the start the car up and one of the belts was screeching but gradually faded until it stopped BUT smoke was pouring from right hand side of the engine bay and it made a couple of noises that sounded like a fire popping, obviously I have quickly switched the engine off as I was worried it was about to go up in flames! Any ideas what problem I have on my hands? Thanks in advance for any advice.
