Need help as we have a 2006 56 plate Mazda3 with the 1.6 TDi engine. Turbo has blown and Mazda dealer says parts have got into engine so new engine is now needed at a cost of over 4k

What should we do????

Assume its no longer under warranty?

Do you trust the garage, I'd be inclined to get a second opionion just to be sure. I'd also be looking at reconditioned engines, or even phone the local scrappie to see if he has anything suitable.

Besides that its bend over and shell out 4k.

ETA: as far as I know that engine can also be found in the Focus, not sure of its transplant-ability but certainly worth investigating as it would make an engine easier to find.

Very suprised at that. Mazda replaced the rusty disks on my wifes Premacy when it was over a year out of warranty FOC.

Why did it blow up? - I would really push the dealer and Mazda and not take no for an answer - you may get something even if its just half the cost. have a word with trading standards.

Obviously this assumes you weren't bouncing off the limiter with no oil in it atthe time of the fail.

This is what they have hung their coat on "it was between 1500 and 2000 miles over due for a service so due to old oil this is why the turbo went and sent it's internals into the engine!"

If it has a FMSH Mazda usually provide some good will payment, at least they do towards the Renesis, perhaps the regular engines are different?

Either way I'd be on the phone to Mazda HQ fishing for that good will payment.

ETA: Ah just saw you replied with the over due service issue, still worth chasing up I guess but not as strong a position to be in - hope you get it sorted.

absolute pish - especially if you were running synthetic, 1500/2000 miles is nothing to fully synthetic oil.

do sopme digging round the forums see if there is a pattern
