Subaru Forester spares and improvements
Discussion
Hello, bought myself my first Jap wagon, a UK spec '99 Forester. So posting in Jap chat for the first time, be gentle
I live in Surrey and would like to know who to contact for spares and improvements.
I'd like to start simply with some clear rear and side repeater lenses, import style.
The brakes feel a little, shall I say uninspiring, either need upgrading or just quality replacement. What's good but not mental, I am on a budget.
Spring and damper replacements. It's a bit leggy, so these may need attention soon, again what's good but budget.
Also the previous owner has misplaced rear head rest. Grey leather. Any ideas.
Grateful for any advice, Z

Have a look on ebay. quite a few JDM Foresters being broken on there.

1) Change the brake fluid - made a huuuge difference
2) Get some decent pads - I had EBC Red Stuff which were s
te (no brake feel unless hot), other people however love them. Now have Ferodo DS2500 which are great (if pricey).
3) Get some decent dics. - I have EBC grooved which seem to be OK and haven't eaten the pads.
4) Get some braided hoses - I have the Goodridge hoses which made a small difference but still noticable
5) Get a brake stopper to prevent master cylinder flex. - Next mod on the list

6) Get some 4 pot calipers from an Impreza (fit straight on) should be about £250
I've done 1-4 and they are now "OK" rather than great.

If you want to retain the rear "self levelling suspension" (SLS) prepare to be shafted. £500 each!!!! KYB do a non SLS replacement http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f75/kyb-ex... but you will also need different springs, try Whiteline.
One quick simple mod is to put a 20mm rear anti-rollbar from an Impreza on. Much less roll!!!
Also the previous owner has misplaced rear head rest. Grey leather. Any ideas.
Again ebay
Hope that helps

I think I have sourced some lenses.
Checking through the history the pads and discs are all less than 7000 miles old. There is no record of a fluid change and pumping the brakes makes them a lot sharper, so that's my job at the weekend.
How can you tell if it has SLS or do all UK spec turbos come with? To be honest it feels alright and the roll bar may be the key.
The steering feels lighter than I am used too, is this normal? So far feeling pleased with my purchase.
I'll give it a clean a post a pic in "show me your wagon!"
