Impreza Sport AWD
Discussion
Hi All,
I'm picking up a new car on Saturday. It's a 1999 'V' Impreza Sport AWD wagon.
It belonged to my wife's Aunt who recently passed away and wanted us to have it. Can anyone tell me anything about it?
I'm guessing it's a non turbo but does any one know the usual stats (0-60, mpg etc).
Looking forward to having a drive!
Cheers,
Phill

As far as performance stats are concerned it's not a performance car and should only be regarded as a very capable family load lugger that will get you through the slippery stuff with ease. Probably c.30mpg
If you're really bothered about 0-60 it's the wrong car for you. Sell it and buy a very quick load lugger in the form of a classic STi wagon or Legacy GT Tourer.

It was more the mpg that I was concerned about! Also it's always nice to know what you've got under your right foot! Sounds like it will similar to the Focus Estate we also have.If you're really bothered about 0-60 it's the wrong car for you. Performance, no.. none of that in a sport, it will however go on for ever. Really reliable
Ah an un-sporty sport then! Will need to keep saving from the turbo for the MX5 then!
To be honest reliability and cheap running costs are more important than performance at the moment (although a part of me wants TURBO power!

They are not a bad car really. Handle very well but with 125bhp and 0-60 of about 9 seconds it is not going to set the world on fire.
Quite a surprising amount of torque for a 2.0 N/A (or so it felt)
Only 125bhp? My 2.0NA Legacies were in the 150-160bhp range, I guess the UK 'Sport' Impreza doesn't get the 4CAM motor then.Quite a surprising amount of torque for a 2.0 N/A (or so it felt)
The sport is not the most exciting of vehicles but the one thing I have learned is that it makes a nice noise than the Turbo. And I have the best backbox as i accidentally bought the wrong one for my Turbo!
If you were to want it (Hayward and Scott - classy not chavvy) it's available to buy as I now have the right one.
Cheers

So on Saturday I made the trip by train up to the Lake District (£44 First Class or £66 standard - go figure).
Drove the car back and i've realised that i've got my work cut out to get this up to a high standard:
Interior:

They owned three dogs so there is dog hair everywhere!

Exterior:

Rare factory fit sunroof:

Dent that needs pushing out:

My main area of concern (it's started to rust along the doors edge):

I've started the project by spending an hour and half getting rid of the dog hair but still a few bits to sort out:
1) Wash the seats/carpet etc
2) Refix the headling in the back of the car (anyone done this?)
3) Wash the car
4) Clean the arches
5) Try to remove as many scratches as possible with the DA
5) Look at sourcing a replacement door/get the rust repaired on the door
6) Dents removed + corner of the front splitter sprayed
7) Fit CD Player
Going to try and do a few bits in the evenings but first of all I need to give the MX5 a good wash and have a practise with the DA!
I've also got a mate's TVR Chimera and another friends A4 Estate to sort out over the next couple of weekends!
Going to be busy I think!
Any suggestions/recommendations/techniques I should try?
Thanks,
Phill
