Insurance and mpg arnt really a consideration. Subaru's offend me and mr2/mx5's don't float my boat.

I live in London so driver involvment isnt such a priority. It doesn't have to be practical at all hehe rwd is prefered.

I have come up with the following choices:

  • Toyota aristo vertex - Nice uber barge with supra engine
  • Mitsubishi Legnum Vr4 - fast 4wd estate, also available with a manual which appeals.
  • Lexus IS200 - not fast by any means, but a nice place to be and a bit more modern.
  • Civic EK9 type r - probably a bit leggy for my budget and maybe too hardcore for every day driving. But I do love the high cam lift engines.
Am i missing anything?

Nissan 300ZX, Mitsubishi 3000GT both come with a manual box. Mazda RX-7, Accord Type-R, ITR...

oh, what about a Soarer?

Soarers come with a V6 or V8 don't they?...

OP did say he was looking for something japanese and Impractical around london... I'd say a V8 Soarer would fit the bill! thumbup

Personally I think I Prelude or an Integra.
350Z's must be circling the £5k mark about now if the OP want's something with a bit more class.

yes 2.5 V6 Twin Turbo or a 4.0 V8. The V8 would be lovely, but i'm unsure it came coupled to a manual box and if memory serves, the TT lump was the more powerful unit, and obviously easier/cheaper to tweak for ridiculous power. The Soarer is RWD too.

More options;

Prelude 2.2 VTi Motegi
Skyline R32 or 33 GTS
Mazda Xedos 9 Miller (if you can find one)

Straight 6 wink. You can convert them to manual as well but this obviously depends on your budget.

RX7 without a doubt - £5000 in the current market will get you a rebuilt, 94 onwards RX7 and it'll be no more hassle than any other Japanese car of its era.

Once you get past the ridiculous rotary reliability nonsense you'll have a fantastic car.

I bought mine over a year ago, serviced it every 7000 miles using it daily and racked up just over 13,000 miles in a year. Hadn't been rebuilt, reading 67,000 miles on the clock and had not a single problem with it. Flooded it once due to my own stupidity, but simple enough to sort.

I flooded mine by starting it, moving it a few yards and turning it off before it'd properly warmed up and then deciding 30 seconds later i fancied going for a drive haha. Needless to say, soon as i started turning it over to take it out realised my errors...

Few ways to sort out the flooding, if you're lucky you might just be able to crank it over and after a few seconds fire in to life, but most common way is to take the spark plugs out, give them a dry if there's any signs of fuel on 'em, take out the injector fuse and then crank it over for a 5-10 seconds. Stick the fuse back in along with the plugs and it should be fine.

Laziest way to do it is to get someone to tow you at low speed to bump start it, not the best way but it'll work smile

....We Need more Info' on What floats your Boat!!..eg, Is the Looks the main priority?

Most of the Cars mentioned are Involving/High Performing Cars !

On the one hand I'm always sitting in traffic, don't do many miles and rarely leave London, so the uber barge makes sense.

But I might want to do track days so something N/A like the civic would be a hoot.

Then there is the Legnum which falls in the middle ground, comfy enough for every day but really capable for track days.

Or I could be sensible and get the IS200 as the insurance is cheap, mpg sensible and is more of an all rounder.
