Its not a make its a standard, basically any of the super unleaded's V-Power, Tesco 99, Excellium, insert rubbish brand image/name here. 95 ron is the standard stuff, 98 ron is super & the better stuff still is 99 ronThe only petrol you should be using in your scoob is Tesco 99RON or Shell V-Power. Anything else is just not good enough.
These days in England, Scotland, and Wales there is no excuse to use anything other than what i've mentioned. I can get both of the above wherever i go and i take regular rips to Scotland (highlands) and Wales, and i've never been caught short in England either.

Definately Tesco 99RON or Shell V-Power 99RON (preference), these are the ONLY fuels recommended on such vehicles. Another reason is that these vehicles are mapped in Japan for High Octane Fuels.
Whilst owning my Scooby before, I also bought STP octance booster from my Local Halfords, would generally advise using this once a month ON TOP of using high ocatne fuel mentioned above.
By the way...how jerky is the vehicle? Does it feel hesitant whilst accelerating??

The car takes a few turns to start when warm and is generally a little bit kangeroo'ish untill the turbo kicks in.It also has a slight lull just before the turbo starts. The tank is nearly empty so will get myself along to tesco's nd top up with what you've told me and see if the problem sorts itself out. CHEERS

You're getting detonation under load. The UK engines can take 95 ron if you absolutely have to but it's still adviseable to run Tesco 99 or shell Vpower as much as you can. JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) which are the motors in Jap imports and P1s are mapped for an even higher RON. 2 full to empty runs on Vpower should have it running nicely
king expensive and only available in a few BP stations, but well worth it if you're going out on track or to a Dyno test

If you have starting and cold running problems on a newage the most probable causes are fouled/faulty spark plugs, dodgy coilpacks or a faulty cooling temp sensor.
Dodgy coilpack faults become more pronounced as you're putting more load on the engine at either low or high revs whatever the temp so perhaps it isn't coilpacks.
Certainly if your spark plugs are fouled or faulty you will get very rough running until they are properly hot but may well and often do cause issues anywhere along the rev range at any engine temp.
Baring in mind it runs better when the car is warmed up or perhaps after a couple of mins of running then it may well be a cooling temp sensor issue, something that is not uncommon in scoobs but often overlooked in favour of other easier to find problems.
The cooling temp sensor feeds back to the ECU and from that the ECU works out general fuelling, cranking fuel injector pulse, cold running erinchment, cold running idle, timing compensation, boost targets etc etc... If the sensor is faulty it may well be telling the ECU to run at somewhere between cold running and normal engine running temp parameters (default) which makes for running rough when cold. It may well not be running rich enough when cold for it to run smoothly.
All that from a buggered cooling temp sensor!!

Oh the old fuel argument on a Impreza..
The Standard ECU in the impreza is adaptable to fuel type. so if the old owner used to use 99Ron or optimax etc then it will take a while for the car to learn the 95 ron fuel. the only acception to this is if the previous owner had a fuel specific map done on the car by a tuner.
I ran my 04 impreza for 40k miles on normal 95 Ron fuel running 300Bhp. and i had no issues with reliability. the car car is still rnning now by it 3rd owner and is now upto 140k miles. 100k miles running 300bhp on normal pump fuel..
