A mate of mine has a Mazda RX7 with 27,000 miles on the clock . Its been stored recently for a period of time. In 1000 miles it has used 15 litres of Oil ! Yes 15 ! There isnt an obvious leak , It does not appear to be burning it as the exhaust is clean . I have got him to put a piece of paper on the exhaust revving the car up and the paper was clean. I have also got him to check the oil filler cap and there is no film coming out of it. He has checked the oil type and it is correct . On a run when warm there is no blue smoke . Water has been checked and is crystal clear.

Any ideas where the oil is going?

Pissing out of the sump? Has he seen lots of accidents in his rear view mirror recently?

Get a large cardboard box and lay it in front of the car. While the car is still nice and hot drive the car over the card. rev it hard a few times and switch off. Go back to it a few hours later and see if there are any oil patches on it. If yes then you know you have a leak, if no then it may well only be leaking under pressure when the engine is loaded up. 15Ltrs in 1000 miles is far too much lost oil for it not to be leaking or showing some definate signs somewhere.

I would expect the engine to be covered in it somewhere.

15 litres in 1000 miles? I'm surprised its even drivable with that level of oil usage.
