My 2007 impreza WRX is in need of new front discs and pads.

I'd usually replace like with like but Subaru official parts are so pricey i was wondering if my money would get me anything better?

I've not got a specific budget in mind and an open to suggestions?

Nothing too extreme mind you! idea

Cheers.

But based on what...... Have you fitted them to a Subaru?

You can go silly extreme and spend thousands on brake upgrades all round or if you are on a budget there is some good kit around for just a few hundred quid and will cover you all round. One of the best mods you can do if your std discs are in good condition is get yourself a decent set of pads. This is by far the most effective brake mod you can do on a budget.

Performance Friction PF-Z, EBC YellowStuff, Mintex 1114, Ferodo DS2500, Pagid Pagid Blue, AP Racing APF404, the list goes on.

Invest in good pads all round and your brake performance compared to std will be night and day different. Other worthwhile mods whatever you do are braided brake hoses, decent brake fluid (again a good long list there too) and a brake servo brace.

Yes it's what i'm running on my STI at present. It's a very good combination and not too expensive.

Personally i would not go with Ian, as getting replacement discs can take a while. If its your daily Drive Stick with EBC Discs and Yellow Stuff PAds.. Plus upgrade yoour Fluid and have braded brakeline fitted you will have a lot more feel a less pedal movement.

Don't get EBC, they are ste. 'Better' discs don't, in general, help with stopping power either.

I have an Evo 8 and am on my seccond set of Carbotech pads. (Best model is XP8, or if you want super brakes which are not so good cold but great hot, then get XP10.) You probably won't have heard of this brand but they are very big in the Evo scene.

Either that or Ferodo DS2500 or DS3000.

Having tried OEM (Brembo discs and pads) versus pattern discs and Carbotech pads, I'd never fit anything but the latter.

EBC are the best selling brakes for sport driving in the uk. Anyone arguing with that needs to be selling more than 12,000 sport sets alone a month in the uk, and 6 million BRITISH made pads a year worldwide. EBC are the only UK based rotor manufacturer still manufacturing in the UK and their factory is in Bristol.

Get your facts right....You're talking 5h1te!!

Selling lots doesn't mean something is good. (See Joe McEldry) They just advertise in Max Power et al.
Carbotech is run by a chap called Ian, who makes the pads. If they don't make pads for your car then you can send him some old back plates and he will make a mould and apply his friction material to them.

They are the dogs danglies performance wise. There are some downsides, though, being cost, brake dust and sometimes squeal. Oh, and when cold they are not great. But when hot, there's nothing as good IMO.

Have to agree with MRMR96

Driven loads of Scoobs on all sorts of pads and disc combinations along with a lot of other cars and to be honest IMO EBC are ste... Regardless of how many they sell. I've had plenty of feedback from customers on the subject and again most will agree that the EBC route is short lived.

Mintex, Carbon Lorraine, PF, X-Spec or DS2500s (along with some other mentioned) are your best bet.

Decent fluid and some braided lines....

If your looking and or have more to spend on an upgrade there's plenty more options again...
