My brother's genuine Evo 6 Tommi Makinen has got no clutch and flywheel left and is sitting waiting for a replacement.
Anyone got any advice I would appreciate it.
Cheap as possible is key as he's only a youngster.
Thanks all

Get him on to the MLR and ring around a few of the local affiliated traders for fitting prices.

I think Camskill also do cheap stock clutches, but they only supply the parts.

Best case scenario is at least £500 though, so it's going to cost him.

And tell him not to launch it or he'll be paying out again very soon!

Thanks for that, I will see how he gets on.

So far someone has quoted £2.5k for a twin plate replacement which I think is pointless! May as well go with a cheaper option and just drive carefully.

See what camskill have in stock.

Any other ideas welcomed

Cheers

There are dealers who will do the Exedy Twin SD fitted for under £1,300. Obviousy if he's skint then £500 for the stock clutch will be more appealing, but the twin is a much stronger clutch and will take a lot more abuse.

I got Mark Shead to fit a Helix clutch & Evo 7 flywheel. Came to about £1500 for me, as need lot of mods due to have a OS Giken clutch in before, but think you could prob get away with £700 - £800 and clutch felt lovely.

I had the Fidanza/Helix organic combo on my old 6. Brilliant setup for the price. Did several trackdays, including 'Ring trips and drift days. Hardly broke a sweat. Still had about 70% life left after 10,000 very hard miles!

Not too bad a job to change, if you can find someone to help who has done one before.

On average when would you expect a clutch to need replacing?
So far my car had 25k on the clock and looking through the massive history it appears to have been looked after (not saying it might not have been driven hard at some point).

He will be looking at around 700-800 for a cheap replacement.

I bought my clutch and lightweight flywheel off of RSE for 600 and got it replaced for 250 with all the fluids included.

If you want to go for lowest cost and its running near standard bhp, best to go for the OEM exedy replacement for around 400 off ebay.

There is not cheap option if you are sure the flywheel is toast.

Standard Evo clutches aren't known for their robustness. I had a 'well looked after' 12,000 miles Evo 6 RS which had a slipping clutch! It only takes a couple of full bore launches to kill a standard clutch. Fun though! laugh

Well the new clutch has been fitted for £1100 with flywheel.
TTV flywheel with organic clutch and it survived Brands Hatch yesterday. If any of you guys were there, his car was the Red Makkinen, obviously with white wheels.

I was there too in the standard P1 - you may have noticed us both lapping faster than just about everyone else despite no modfications!!
