i'm thinking about these 4:

celica gt-four
altezza rs200
legacy gtb
teg type r dc2

what do you think?

i want something with mod potential but reliable stock.

anything better around?

VI+ EVO or newage Scoob. Shedloads of tuning potential with very decent/biggest power potential for not a lot of money. £5K would buy you a newage WRX in good condition without huge miles on the clock. If you can squeeze another £2K on top you'll get a pukka bugeye STi with reasonable mileage. Great cars, look good, go very well/handle well out of the box!!

you'll only get a bucket of an evo 6 for 5k! better off with a 5, or go with above a new scooby,

well an estate is never going to be all out on the fun stakes compared to, say, a sportscar or a rally rep.

is your priority fun or practicality?

my vote: MR2 Turbo. For 5k you should get a nicely modded one of the owners club with a good history and 350+bhp.

k so i have been dealing with 4g63 in the states with my eclipse gsx. im just moving back to the uk. plus since im 19 evo, scooby, skyline, supra are all out of the question. i was thinking rx7 but rotary seems a HHUGE pain in the ass. also the seats are way to small in the back.

i need 4 seats and thats it. i prefer awd and i like any body style. anything with a mod base really. the honda type r st is nice but i just think i'll end up selling it coz they dont get that fast.

for some reason i cant insure a impreza wrx but i can insure a legacy gtb.

keep some suggestions coming coz i really dont know everything thats in the uk.

oh and preferably over 25mpg. i mean its expensive over there.

scratchchin

Ever driven a GTB? It'd be an easy choice out of the 4 options the OP listed IMO.

To be fair if he's 19, i think he is in for a huge insurance-related wake up call on any of these cars...

insurance isnt the issue really. im getting third party f&t. i dont wanna spend more than 3500 per year though. i had a bmw m5 in england when i was 18 and i managed to get insurance on that ok. since i live with my parents and i have no rent or bills i can afford it.

i do really like the celica gt4 though. are they expensive to keep going? and say i wanted about 300whp out of it would i be able to keep good reliability?

3500 a year on insurance? its your money and all, but thats bonkers - your are only spending 5k on the car! If its going fast you want, take that 3500 and spend it on track days. Or just build a year or two of no claims, save 10k and buy something flash.

oh what the hell, do what you like, its your money.

A 300whp Celica is entirely possible, but they have some expensive niggles (superstrut suspension in particular). Plus you will be buying a pre-modded one, which may/may not be expensive to run, depending on how well it was mapped, how stressed parts have been.

Dont tell me you are going to buy a stock car, throw money at it to get it to 300whp, then throw 3500 at insurance as well. you might as well burn £50 notes to heat your bedroom.

well i got a quote for 2400 on the celica gt4. and i was gonna get one already modified. but i'd prefer the mods to be on suspension, breaks and maybe some engine work. but i dont want a ton of boost on something i haven't built myself. i would also take the car straight to a specialist to make sure everything is good to run 300hp first. ive had my us license since i was 17 but i only had a uk license since oct09. so i have driving experiance but i cant claim having a license since i was 17 cos it was international. hence why i had to pay 4500 for comp insurance on a yaris t sport! i's prefer to spend my money on nice wheels than having a expensive tv's and clothes.

i also checked out the altezza rs200. what do you think of these. i know theyre kinda slow stock but do they have much potential. also how cheap are teg type r's to mod and how cheap could i bring it to 250whp?

how reliable are subaru legacy gtb's? and also what do people think of the mitsubishi colt rs?

so regardless of insurance. and without supra, evo, impreza, skyline. what would you get if you had 5g. 200sx maybe?

I had a quick squizz on the classifieds for a 323 GTR/GTX as they're a bit rarer than these;

that is super nice. but the insurance seems to be more than an e39 5.0 bmw m5 on those.
