Bye Bye MR2. Sad day :o(
Discussion
Today my lovely little MR2 failed its MOT in a rather major way. I have owned it for just over a year and it was my first RWD car. I picked it up pretty cheap and was expecting to get the year out of it, and not much more, so I can't complain, but I bloody love that car!
I grinned every time I got behind the wheel, I put over 13,000 miles on the clock, including a few several hundred mile round trips, I drove it every day including through all that snow & sheet ice, and it has never put a foot (tyre?) wrong. It was 'only' a Rev2 N/A, but handled beautifully and was the car I was always pleased to get back in, even after driving the OH's Exige.
I have become very attached to it, and although it so happens I am in a position to upgrade, I had thought about keeping it and stripping it out as a track toy. Sadly the MOT revealed far too many issues for that to be feasible. So she will be sold to a breaker or I'll have to consider scrapping
So, the end of my Jap era for now. But I can't go without saying a big thank you to the members of this forum (especially Marf) who provided so much invaluable advice when I was buying
I do have a hankering for some more Jap fun (turbocharged this time) and may be on the look out after I scratch a different itch

Time for an MX5. Tis gone already to a trader/breaker. Was so sad seeing it loaded onto a trailer, been such a faithful car.
No MX5, and although one day I will return and will absolutely have a turbo, for now I have a different calling.... 911
Ok, ok, I'll go now
I think most of us MR2 drivers would like to have a calling for a 911....just a few wallet restrictions to overcome! No MX5, and although one day I will return and will absolutely have a turbo, for now I have a different calling.... 911

TVRWazzock - that is one of my favourite TVRs
To answer some other posters, the car was a Rev2 N/A. The major problem on the MOT was the amount of corrosion (excessive on all sills, all suspension components etc), plus a host of other issues. With no facilities and no mechanical know how, it was not viable for me to get all of it repaired. That notwithstanding, it was 100% reliable in all the time I owned it, & the most fantastic car to drive. If I can ever afford to run 2 cars, an MR2 will be on the list as my daily driver

You're getting old, prefering something more comfy and with better door access!
I can't actually argue with that! Whilst being possibly one of the most sublime driving machines, "comfort" is not on the spec list with an Exige. I was going to get an S1 Elise to follow on from my MR2, until I drove his on a 2 hour round trip, then I decided for my daily drive (& the sake of my back) I needed the old man's choice, hence Porsche!
