Anyone remapped a P1?
Discussion
I am having a huge debate with my brother who is gaining advice from the MLR on how to remap.
He has an Evo 6 TME, i have a P1.
Obviously i want my car to be performing to its optimum and be a bit faster. However, there are many debates on what to do about remapping. Geekmapping being one of them.
Can I remap to 99RON and make the most of my decat centre and backbox and get somewhere near 320bhp easily? And if so, are Evos and P1's similar enough to go to the same place/bloke?

A friend of mine has a P1 with decat and made about 320bhp with a remap. He went to http://www.zenperformance.co.uk/ and has been really happy with it.
A lot of people can "do" remaps but I would suggest someone who has experience with the car/ECU
Other places to try would be
http://www.brdevelopments.com/
http://www.jollygreenmonster.com/
http://www.andyforrestperformance.co.uk/4436.html
Ask on the P1 board as well http://p1woc.co.uk/

Have a look here

It lists what parts are recomended at each level.

Thanks Simon. It was me having the direct email chat with you yesterday.
So you think with fuel pump and air filter a remap might get 310-320bhp? Don't want to do a de cat downpipe as it would make it too loud and start to fail MOT emissions. Alre4ady have a decat centre from hayward and scott.
Cheers

I have a P1 at approx 320bhp. Decat, panel filter, uprated fuel pump and remapped.
It still looks 100% original.
Fuel pump is reccomended as a precaution and a general improvement to the car (doesn't get seen or heard anyway!) decat is a simple bolt on and can be undone at anytime. Don't wirry about these things effecting originality- they are all easily reversable

Picking mine up from Torque of the devil today. They found it was only running at 256bhp but with K&N panel filter, decat centre, backbox and walbro fuel pump it's now running 302bhp. Chuffed with that result. It still looks 100% original.

You mentioned that the fuel pump doesn't get seen or heard....not heard? Really? Bloody thing whines like nobody's business and you can clearly hear it with the stereo turned off. Not sure i am going to enjoy hearing this strange noise behind me all the time!
For what it's worth, your brother's VI should make around 360 bhp when remapped if it's got the full exhaust, induction and fuel pump, so it looks like your P1 might struggle to be faster, at least in a straight line.
Re the fuel pump, whereabouts is it located? If it's under the rear bench seat as in the Evo, or a similarly flat space, you could always fit soundproofing around and above it.
Also, did it come with a foam sleeve and was this used to fit it? Not sure if it does on the Subarus, but if so it could explain the noise.

It's not a good idea to use a K&N filter on a P1, you shouldnt use any oiled filter on the MY99/00 impreza as they have a very sensitive to oil MAF sensor, which if contaminated will make the car run lean and you are on your way to big end failure.
It's a good idea to change the MAF sensor every 30K or so on this model as they slowly deteriorate, as they age the engine goes leaner, they are not an expensive item at about £80.
You are much better off using a genuine STi GroupN panel filter, it's a dry element that flows more than enough for your power needs, i would swap out the MAF at the same time as it will be contaminated now.

John and Vixpy1, thank you for your advice.
So i ought to get rid of the K&N as well as the MAF sensor before my engine goes caput?
I am lucky at the moment as the guys at Torque of the Devil said my engine is a particularly good one hence the excellent power output with almost no mods. I don't want anything to go wrong so will look into this and get rid of the K&N.
Cheers

surely a k&n panel filter as the op says he has is not an oiled cone filter, just a free`er flowing panel filter.Scooby P1 said:

That's what i was wondering. I am ordering a MAF sensor as scoobynet forums say it's a great idea, one guy changes his every year!
But do i need to ditch the K&N panel filter and put an STI one in?
Cheers
i am pretty sure you are ok with the panel filter, i am assuming that they thought you meant you had a k&n cone filter. But do i need to ditch the K&N panel filter and put an STI one in?

either look it up somewhere, open the filter box and see how it feels or just wait for the guys to answer again and perhaps they will tell you even the k&n panel filters are oiled or that they thought you meant a cone filter.
