I was a bit bored last night so I thought I'd get me a new exhaust for the Impreza. I had a look around the internet and it seemed the best exhaust to go for was the Afterburner Vortex. So, a couple of quid and a quick blast up the M1 resulted in a tasty new sound for the Impreza.

First impressions are very thumbupthumbupthumbup. It's a considerable amount louder than the standard Prodrive system and I got my first wker sign from a white van man on the way home. Here's hoping I'll be able to have some more fun in the tunnels!

Other than a nice rumbling V8, there's nothing better than a nice rumbling boxer engine.

But, I think I prefer the 1st exhaust..

The Afterburner Vortex is f'ing loud. Had one on my car for a bit and it made my ears ring after a 20 mile motorway drive.

Have a nice H&S now smile

I have the AB Vortex fitted on my Bugeye with decat and deres centre section, and although lous when foot flat, it is fine at motorway speeds. Great looking and sounding pipe, described as an Anti-Aircraft gun by a friend.

Just changing the back box will make it louder or quieter rather than changing the whole system if you already havhe a stainless steel system fitted. Even with a standard exaust system changing the backbox will give you a sweeter sound, more burble!!

Personally if they are too loud it just sounds awful and you end up losing performance with an exhaust that's too big for the engine at a certiain mod level. Smaller diameter exhaust on a scoob that makes upto 350bhp is better as you'll gain torque with a 2.5" system. Milltek make nice systems that sound very sweet and not too loud.

The Prodrive sounds a lot nicer IMHO. No wonder you're getting the wker sign, but each to their own. smile

Now if you want a loud exhaust go for this one

Run the above with a decat, and no resonator section...

Here's another clip of the new sound - it's nicer through a tunnel.

I take it you have a after market dump valve?? That louder than the exhaust and would get on my nerves!! I left the noise for the bus doors.. if you want the rally noise, then blank off the dump valve and let the waste gate take the strain.. Then you will get waste gate chatter which is better than a vent to atmosphere DV.

Fcensoreding bin that dump valve mate. I had a 2001 UK300 with PPP, took it to TSL Motorsport (i think that's what they are/were called) and they sold me (and fitted) a dv to my car. The noise got on my t1ts, and i swear the car had lost power as a result of that piece of ccensoredp
Scoobs sound at their best with a nice subtle zorst IMO. Leave the psssssst to the double deckers and Punto Turbo's wink

I quite like my dump valve, to be fair. It's best when I'm trying to drive economically (yes I know, in a Scooby...) as if I spin my turbo up and hear a psssh I know I'm being a bit overzealous. It's sometimes surprising how quickly it spins up when I'm not expecting it.

Plus on a run I think it complements the sound of the engine quite well - never found it obtrusive.
