Fitting later size wheels to earlier Mk3?
Discussion
Any issues in doing so? I am buying a 2000 Mk3 (hopefully today) which has some awful aftermarket alloys on it and I can get a set of wheels and tyres in these sizes (original Toyota alloys I believe): 185/55/15 on the front and 205/50/15 on the rear which I am guessing are the later ones.
Hello! So did you buy the car? I have a 2001 MR2 Mk3.
Finding tyres in the original sizes is getting more difficult, many people therefore move up a wheel size making the choice wider as well as putting more rubber on the road.
When I purchased my car it featured the original alloys with good quality tyres - the handling and balance was ideal. When the time came to replace the tyres I was limited in choice and therefore decided to replace the original alloys (which were also becoming corroded) with 16" Dezent A which allowed me more tyre choice.
I was concerned that the handling and balance would be affected, making the car too grippy for the power available, but that proved not to be the case. I chose 195/45/16 and 215/40/16 Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres and am more than happy with them in the wet and dry.
Good luck and enjoy your car!
