Not sure how to put this.. Whether I'm having a mid life crisis or an urge to own an AWD rally based car, for some reason I really fancy buying a 330 EVO X.
Why I don't know. I've never owned or driven a AWD vehicle before.
Are there any owners out there who can give there opinions on the EVO X, whats it like to live with / own etc.
Thanks in advance.

I've spent some time with the Evo X and feel that some of the magic of the Evo line was lost with the migration from IX to X. It's possible you could say the same when the Evo VI changed to the Evo VII, but for me, the best compromise between the classic Evo manic feel, modernity and cost is best represented by the Evo VIII. FQ-360.
Of course, if you prefer the looks and/or the SST gearbox, knock yourself out.

i've got an X 360,
its way more grown up than my old sti impreza, make sure you get the GSR, the touch screen satnav is one of the best systems around, and the stereo is second to none.
quite easy to live with on a day to day basis and more than happy round town at low speed, but really really shifts when needed.
real world fuel consumption my lifetime average for the car is 23mpg more than i was expecting.
only criticism, especially for your midlife crisis bit, is they are very quiet, much more refined and sensible than a fire breathing evo of old.

Thanks for the replies. The car needs to be a good all rounder. Speed when you need it and relatively quiet on the motorway. I've been snowed in the last couple of Winters so I will need a 4wd to be able to get out of the country lanes on to the main roads.
I've had a insurance quote for the Evo £540 for a 330 manual.
MPG quite similar to the 'Z'.
What about servicing ? and tyre wear ?

There's no such thing as an Evo VIII FQ-360, did you mean Evo IX FQ-360? Of course, if you prefer the looks and/or the SST gearbox, knock yourself out.

The VIII FQs came in 300 or 330 guise.

as for servicing, if you buy a UK car, 99% of them were sold with a three year service pack, so depending on how old you wanna go, you'll have at least 1 year left on it if you buy an 08, and its all free, no oil etc (although they don't include brake pads and clutches if they need doing) as for cost, I just had my second year service done, it was in the service plan so no cost but i asked what it would have been if i had to pay - it was £430, so not massive. they are every 10,000k or every year.
as for tyres, the origional yokos they were sold with last about 100 yards, they are super soft (i got 6K out of them) but since then had a set of goodyear eagle asyms on and they have done 10k with at least 4mm left on them.
mpg in the 360 is at 23 for my lifetime average, but it seems like you get worse mpg as the tank is so small 55 litres so you fill up every 220miles or so.
absolutely stupid amounts of grip in wet and dry, infact if you lose traction in the dry, you've probably nicked the car and are about to plant it in a tree.
Rear wing is a pain in the arse if you like to keep an eye out for plod behind etc other than that love the car!
p.s, if you get one, please please buy mudflaps for it, you can get some relatively inoffensive ones from mitsu, otherwise you'll find it likes to sandblast its rear wings and doors.
I'm sure I could get a big exhaust for it, but kinda feel a bit old for all that these days, just is a little quiet for the kind of car it is.

Is there an option to extend the warranty / service for 5 five years ?.
Tyre wear is approx 6/7k and mpg is about the same as the 'Z'. Same car tax, although the insurance is about £80 more. Have you got any info on performance times 0 - 60 , 0 - 100 times say for a 330 manual.
I've gone from 2 x 350z to my X, bought a base GS 300, it's impossible not to mod an Evo, so why spend extra money on a 330?...they are all imported as the same car, then converted by CCC after registration. Most people will say it's got fat and sensible, but how many have driven a modded one? 400/400 is quite cheap to achieve (£1500), (I have had a bent rod and a forced forged build though
) fit decent suspension, decat and loud zorst and it's a different animal, brakes are surprisingly up to the job @ 400/400, much stiffer than any previous evo, handling is unreal, and I can still get mine nicely sideways
Loved my Zs, but they are toys compared to my X....I admit it will be slightly dull if you plan to keep it standard though............and stay away from the hesitant and strangely geared SST imo
Never had a problem with 'easily scratched interior' in my almost 2 years of ownership, never heard that one before!!

I'm not fussed about the sst, much prefer a manual.

A few questions:
How does the mods effect the warranty, longetivity of the engine and drivetrain ?
How much extra are you paying over stock for insurance ?
The mods you have fitted to get 400 bhp must surely knock the second hand value of the car.
IMHO, if i was buying second hand, all those mods says 'keep away' unless I had a wheelbarrow of money staulking me...
What's wrong with a stock 330 manual ?
All said, Got to say the car looks the business though.

I cant see a modded Evo being a problem to sell at all! Infact some people will see it as a cheaper buy as you have spent the cash on modding it already. A few questions:

Some people might not want to touch a modded one. but as long as the works been doe right and by a good company then there should be no problems.

Take a look at who did the work on the Evo FQ-400 for instance. What's the difference between a punter on the street going to that tuning shop and having the parts fitted and remap carried out and Mitsi UK doing so?
An FQ-330 starts life in Japan as the JDM specification GSR model, it's then imported over here by Colt Car Company who send them to a tuner who fit the badges and uprated parts etc and then it's sold through Mitsubishi/Ralliart as an FQ-330. So, the "unmodified" car you're looking to buy is in fact modified right from the outset.

The other way to look at it is that the FQ cars sold in the UK are modified after they leave the production line in Japan anyway, and not by Mitsubishi either.
