So due to mine being a bit knackered and an impending 'ring trip I have decided to rejuvanate brake dics, pads, fluid and braided hoses all round.

I am thinking new standard discs all round and some nice pads as well as braided hoses and dot5.1 or similar fluid. I figure upgrading from old to new will be a massive improvement without going to later/larger callipers or expensive APs etc. I like to keep it original where possible...and I don't want to spend an absolute fortune.

So suggestions for pads? I hear Greenstuff are bad, Ferodo are great but expensive etc What do you guys recommend? Or general suggestions/recommendations on fluid/discs/hoses bearing in mind my comments above?

Cheers!

Give Ian Godney a call at Godspeed. He is still doing a group buy on Scoobynet, front grooved discs and kevlar pads £99
http://bbs.scoobynet.com/group-buys-356/815113-294...

Ordered mine yesterday and came today

Just to add Greenstuff, you car is too heavy don't get them, Redstuff, I really didn't like them, no pedal feel, Yellowstuff, I have only ever drive a track car with them and they were great, but they need heat before they work.

I was going to get the Ferodo's but the Godspeed deal was too good to miss.

Ians brakes are good, but getting hold of replacements if needed ASAP can occasionally be a problem.

Hmmmm... well I can get all standard parts delivered for £200 or for £300 I can get the following...

Front and rear grooved discs and kevlar pads, a braided hose kit with 1 litre of Dot 5.1 brake fluid, and the handbrake shoes

Decisions! The Godspeed stuff sounds like a cracking deal...

I have an Evo. The best brakes for reasonable price are:
Camskill discs. (Just plain faced ones.) http://www.camskill.co.uk/
Motul RBF600 fluid. http://www.carbotech-europe.com/contact.htm
Carbotech XP8 or XP10 pads. http://www.carbotech-europe.com/contact.htm

Ian is the guy to talk to at Carbotech. They are not well know outside the Evo circle it seems, and their website aint great. Pads are top notch though.

As with all things in life, they are a compromise. So they can squeak if not driven hard, and they dust a bit, but by GOD are they powerful when you get some heat into them. The XP10's are not great when stone cold, but after one or two light stops they are fine and continue to get better as the heat builds, until you get to about your 5th lap of Silverstone when the whole Brembo system starts getting a bit on the hot side.

Hi I have a STI and changed my brakes over a year ago to EBC discs and yellowstuff pads, they work great in all conditions! think alot of people have a downer on yellowstuff because they used to be crap untill they had heat in them but they have sorted that out now.

You can find them all on Ebay, but i think I got mine from Graham Goode?

P.S. I'm going to the Ring this August on the way back up from a trip to Monaco and Modena and have every confidence with my brakes.

The one thing that makes the biggest difference and reaps the biggest rewards in that department is the brake pads. Spend good money on brakes pads, don't skimp. It's worth the extra even if you're running std rotors.

Can't remember the size, just told Ian at Godspeed the model and he gave me a price. I think its like 277mm as standard? Dunno, I am getting the tape measure out tomorrow before I pull the trigger .... to be honest I think I am going for the Godspeed stuff, lots of people rave about them on scoobynet and the prices are beyond reasonable...they will look trick too..! cool

Will update with what I go for and after the ring trip...though I doubt I will really test them as it will be my first time so I will be driving Miss Daisy! driving

(Recent VXR smash on news here haunting me!)

I just ordered some replacement discs through this week (tuesday) and they were delivered wednesday. good stuff. He knows the car though, he did the front discs//pads/caliper refurb in his place.,, and then the rear 2 pot conversion.
I trust Ian for anything brakes, I would rather him fit the new discs, but have now found a Subaru dealer, a lot nearer that I trust, so that will do.

Prodrive have a 30% discount on their epic Alcon upgrade...
http://www.prodrive.com/products_level2.html?id=88...

Great value at £1000 for the whole lot and they are brillint plus the calipers look the money. I have them on my P1 and love them everyday.

The prodrive are 330mm but only 4 pot.

These K Sports (link below) are 330mm 8 pots for £680+VAT = £799 inc VAT. (Though you'll probably want to upgrade the pads this kit is pretty good.)

You do realise that more pistons does not necessarily mean better performance, right?

The Alcon kit and the AP kits from someone like Scoobymania are top of the tree performance-wise if you are going on track.

I do.

But I think these are better value.

Further, I reckon with the same spec pads and fluid I think the 8 pot K Sport would out-perform the 4 pot Prodrive or AP setup.

I haven't tested this, but logic tells me that with the same sized discs the 8 posts will have a larger pad contact area, so the same compound pad will mean that the larger area will work best.

Wrong.
The limit to braking is ALWAYS the amount of grip available through the tyre contact patch. Even standard brakes can bring you to lock up point and after that more friction is pointless.

The value of improved brakes is the way they resist fade by dissipating heat before it soaks through from the discs/pads, through the calipers, to the brake fluid. Same with different friction materials, they won't stop you faster but will resist fade for longer. That is the benefit.

Doc, I didn't mention any comparison of peak braking force.
