Hi guys, does anyone know what is the bhp limit the s14/s14a stock internals can run at safely before reliability becomes an issue or the engine goes completely? Also gearbox.

What is your aim and how much are you planning on spending?

for full stage 1 (280bhp) you shoulkd be fine with both internals and gearbox - beyond that it starts to get expensive to tune as you are looking at bigger turbo, new afm, bigger injectors, bigger clutch, oil cooler, bigger rad, on top of the Stage 1 mods (colder plugs, exhaust, boost controller, FMIC, Induction Kit, fuel pump). Also you need to factor in sorting brakes and suspension as well, certainly well before you get to normal gearbox and internal muching power level.

Internals I think are good for 350 ish but can go earlier, gearbox the same but mine went at stage 1, and there are also people doing 400 with std box it can depend on its history and luck. The biggest engine killers are DET (bad fueling) and blocked spray bars. Both easy to fix/avoid.

I certainly wouldn't worry about internals yet, unless you have deep pockets and a silly target.

Tune slowly and sympathetically, get to know your stuff, read, read and read more, take peoples advice and enjoy it.
