These 500+bhp cars that are tuned up to go like poo off a shovel - how reliable are they in the real world ? If its been done properly are they reliable or do they always need tinkering with to keep them on top form ?

Saw a modified Supra run at a mile timed straight - f*ck me it was fast !! Got to be the cheapest and fastest way to go !!

A 500bhp Supra is hardly tickleing the engine, they will go on for years at that.

500 on a stock RB will prob last, but the bottom ends do go sometimes

Yes, but you have hit the nail on the head.....done properly!

There are so many modified Supra's out there running upwards of 500bhp, but very few are modified properly because the price of the car is now less than the cost of modifying properly.

It's so easy (and tempting) for people to go and bolt on 'acme' kits and parts and run big figures and be chuffed to bits with their figures and times. But reliability in the conversion and doing it properly to get the most out of the setup is often overlooked in the excitement of chasing a big figure.

However the block is as solid as you can ever wish for so a sensible conversion with all the right supporting mods (including good tuning) should provide many years of trouble free motoring.

Matrin, i think the abovestatement should read as follows

"However the block is as solid as you can ever wish for so a sensible conversion with good tuning (and all the right supporting mods) should provide many years of trouble free motoring."

I have built & run Toyota JZ engines for several years now, basicly they are bomproof with few inherent design weakenesses. Hence why so many people modify them.

This is the the set up I have in my current car, same as I ran on my old car for 5 years that was driven on the road lots & competed in top level drift comps for as many years.

500bhp on the road is mahoosive fun biglaugh

I'm N Dorset & would be happy to offer any advise/assistance

If you are looking at a Nissan talk to Abbey Motorsports

http://www.abbeymotorsport.co.uk/site_flash/index....

They have built & look after my 350 Zed Twin Turbo, its kicking out 455 at the wheels, add on whatever you like for transmission loss but its circa 500+ And yes, its a hoot. They may have customers looking to sell

As others have said there are a lot of cars with alleged big bhp, not sure if they all make it, some have just had minimal mods to get the power so reliability will be an issue. Built properly by someone who knows what they are doing & you will get a reliable car, I have no worries blatting off round Europe for a few thousand miles knowing I can push the car & still get home (plod permitting of course)

Also big power should come with better brakes, probably suspension, & obviously a better clutch

Happy hunting
