Flashing 'D' on autobox. Mitsubishi

Hi All.
I have a 1998 Mitsi chariot (spacewagon), 2.4 gdi, auto.
Its driving fine but after about 5 miles, the d light on the dash starts flashing at different speeds. As in it flashes quickly sometimes, then slowly, then steady.
It is driving fine, going up and down the box no problem, either in full or semi auto, (triptonic box). The selction is smooth and no jerkiness and the fluid is fine and pink. Car is running perfect and has just passed the nct. Pootling or pushing on makes no difference but is kind of worrying about this flashing light.
If it had gone into limp mode it would have stuck itself into 3rd and stayed there.
Any ideas?
