Having random thoughts about wrx turbos but with an auto box. Now I know it's not the best combination, but is it a bad combination?

Classic fella. Though a newer shape import is currently on the market which I've never seen before!

Is there a particular reason why you want an auto?

Reason I ask is I have previously extolled the virtues of a manual vs auto gearbox quite aggressively, without realising the person in question only had one leg...

we had one for a year- not the fastest of scoobs but it does suit the small td04 turbo perfectly.
on the road the ratios are well spaced to give a good torque spread.

I,d say once rolling more than fast enough to keep up with modern traffic with reasonable 4wd handling too.
if outright speed is.nt your thing you,ll love it smile

My bm should do over 140mph, I'm rarely over 90 and even now it's probably rarely over 70!

The auto box is OK but pickup is a bit slow, probably due to turbo lag. I don't know about Impreza but auto Foresters are more FWD bias than the manuals. They do torque steer a bit under hard acceleration but most of the time you don't notice it.
