Hey guys,
Looking at spending around 6-7k (Less preferably lol) on a 231 RX8 and was wondering if there was anything i should look out for?
I have seen one with around 40k on the clock which maybe of interest, would it be due any major service around that mileage?

Cheers for any help
Dan

It will be due the coil packs changing at around that milage.
I got my Dad a nice red 231 53 plate with 31000 miles on and FSH for just £5000 a few months ago.
After a while it was poor starting and intermittent warning lights pointing at emissions so taken to a local garage (Friend.) He changed coils and plugs which cured the problem completely and made the car faster. He found low compression on a plug that hadnt been put in right at a service. The car had full Mazda service too!

Coil packs are available from the states( cant remember the company) at 1/4 the price from mazda UK so worth doing if not already done.
There was a bigger starter motor fitted to later models with some earlier models being modded. Check starting when hot.

Post 2006 cars are £400 a year tax too.

Good luck

Cheers for the reply, had a feeling the coil packs would need to be replaced.
Not cheap but definitely worth it!
Will keep all of that in mind while I am looking for a new car.
Cheers again Dan

I sold mine with just over 30K on the clock, full Mazda warranty and SH and the coils packed up so worth making sure they have been replaced or budget to get them done.

Make sure you rev it all the way to the beep once it is warm. It should pull smoothly all the way. It should start on the button when hot so check this out too.

Check for uneven tyre wear, they are prone to mis alignment easily and worth checking anyway if you do buy a car for peace of mind.

If you can pay the extra get one with a Mazda warranty because after market companies and covering less and less on the RX8 due to CAT, engine and coil failures. Get over to the RX8 owners club, loads of information.

They are great cars but you do have to work them hard to get the best performance but brilliant fun on the twisties and practical too.
