Hi all.
In need of some tech info about skyline engines I've got a rear engine'd kit car project planned and recon the skyline engine would do the job.. so..
Could someone tell me overall length?
weight?
how much power can be achieved on the standard bottom end?
any known performance exhaust manifolds?
flywheel diameter?
gearbox selection (cable or mechanical?)

noise is the last thing on my mind atm lol.
I just know from past experience that the skyline rb25 and rb26 motors are stonking bits of kit it's just for this kit car I'd like to push 500bhp, the engine will be completely rebuilt it's just the questions above that I can't really find much information about.

it's going in a custom built chassis.
it's looking at either a boosted bike engine and all the complicated things that go with that or a car engine, thing is it needs to be a good comprimise between weight and power.. Ideally I wouldn't like to double the weight for double the power.
It's going to be fed into a quaife transaxel if a car engine and I'll build the adapter plate to make it all work. I've also got a dry sump pump sitting here ready to go on aswell.

I'll probably stay with the standard manifolds then, inlet side I'm going to make port matched individual throttle bodies if it's an RB25, as the RB26 is already ITB's (although not port matched).
There are quite a few RB engines on eBay at the minute, the RB26 make decent money considering you can buy them through the right channels in japan for £1500 with history to match.

500 would be about the most you'd want to run on a rebuilt Rb25det to keep it reliable for the long term. Im running 450 @ 1.2bar on my std. rebuilt RB25DET
I've seen 601bhp on a std. (internals) RB25DET but this was a pure drift car so not too much worry on longevity.

The RB engines are quite big, heavy lumps (iron block) - google found a figure of 256kg but I have no idea if thats accurate or not. They are stronger than the V6s if you're going for big power, though a couple of weeks back I was talking to a bloke who runs a VQ35 (350Z motor) with a couple of turbos bolted to it in his offroad racer - so far its been reliably poking out 560bhp on standard internals for a year or so.it's looking at either a boosted bike engine and all the complicated things that go with that or a car engine, thing is it needs to be a good comprimise between weight and power.. well weight is the thing, I've been looking at the SR20 engine and they come up really cheap and produce decent power, but then for the little bit of sacraficed weight ontop of that the RB engine is looking very favourable.
The plan is to rebuild the engine anyway as I have full access to a dymanic balancing rig etc so can build the internals to my spec, I've got a realistic budget of £2000 for the modifying the engine not including management and not including turbos etc. so just for internals and dry sump system.

dont kill me for this, but have you thought about a LS engine??? (already got my coat and running out the door! lol)
there are a million and one engines to think about. Coosy, Sooby, Lex V8 (ally block version), Nissan 3.5 V6, the list could go on and on.
Whats the intened use for the car? what power do you want?

Of the Jap 6 pots the 1JZ & 2JZ are far far more reliable especially tuned than the the RB25 & RB26 motors. Hence why they are that much cheaper to buy in the first place as there is little demand for replacements!! In the drifting community I've seen countless recked RB's with standard internals & big money internally modified projects, RB stands for Rattly Bearings 
A 1JZ with a single turbo, injectors & management will make a super reliable 500bhp all day long. A complete engine can be bought for £500 & for £2k you've got a 500bhp engine. Many of the drift guys are fitting 1JZ's in replacement of RB's
