ok all,

i have up to £2500 to spend on some japanese fun, i am working from home so this will be our daily driver but more of a fun daily driver as it not a necessity. insurance is not too much of a problem.

i have been looking at import 1994-95 WRX's mainly but also like FTO's for the money, i am watching a 323 GTX Turbo on ebay but was just seeing if there is anything else out there?? I dont mind servicing costs but do not want a money time-bomb and i know i can get low mileage WRX's for this money.

i have no car at the moment so travelling is an issue, although i have friends who can take me and it obviously costs me petrol money!!!! i am in wiltshire. a car must be found over the coming weekend.

i see posts like this shot down on here for people not really looking for a car but i really must have a car for this weekend as not getting out will soon cost me my marriage lol

would also like to add, it has to be cool enough to join the swindon lot on here on their meets!!!!

cheers,
Greg

mr2 is out, coz i need back seats... kid and/or dog!!!!

gt4's all look dodgy around my budget and need st205 otherwise might as well get a leon cupra or something boring like that.

a starlet could be fun but not sure they will be powerful enough compared to other cars about.

not being difficult here, just trying to be honest!! i think the WRX is my benchmark and that has the power and fun factor as well as the boring 4 door stuff etc. was just seeing if their was anything out there i had forgotten.

ideally someone will sell me an Evo 1 thats been looked after for £2500!!!!!

i am a classic car fan so like the older stuff.

Greg

Define "fun"?

For me, something is fun if it's a handful and not well-behaved.

Fun is grin on face when you floor it, or like a train on rails into a corner.

My history is with a few hot hatches and big 4x4's with power to burn and they had a "grin" factor, i recently test drove a Leon Cupra (180 bhp) and that was fun-ish, made me grin but i thought a jap import could give me more as A-Plan are offering to insure me at reasonable rates on an import and i dont have a daily work drive now is the time to get myself a "real" car. Obviously i am restricted budget wise but was just interested in people's thoughts.

The more i write on here, the more WRX is screaming at me!!!! but willing to look beyond that if there is something else.....

Hi Greg,
I guess I am a little older than you, 40! Old eh?
Had lots & lots of cars, and bikes, stable now includes 911 & a Boxster.
The most fun I have had for years is an old 2wd turbo manual Nissan Skyline. Have been drifting at a special infield low grip circuit at Oulton Park with it as well as using it fairly regular.
Have to say everyone should try it, it really is superb!
Mine is for sale now for 2k, look to r33 adverts, but you should try one even if you don’t buy mine!
My opinion is that EVO's & Scooby's are too sanitised & only encourage speeds where it is inappropriate or where you are going to get done.
It's only my opinion & I have owned both.
Good luck & have a think. Sometimes a sideways look at things is the best & you can certainly get that from a Skyline.

I didnt like the one i drove before I got my MR2, but I've heard that with thicker anti roll bars and strut braces you can really sharpen up the turn in. It was made just before the era of super-hardcore Evos and Subarus being popular and so was built to be an understeery GT. It has potential, though!

and with a puck clutch the drivetrain can take some serious 6000rpm launch abuse, according to the jap drag racing boys.

Have you thought of a Nissan 300 zx. There will be plenty around for the budget you have. Just recently bought my brothers of him and have had loads of fun so far.
