RX-8 Noise

I have put down a deposit on a 2004 RX-8 that I really like. There was just something that concerned me, once started and on idle there is a kind of popping noise from the exhaust? My experience of rotary engines is quite limited so just wondered whether this was normal or something to be concerned with? Thanks in advance

My RX7 does this on idle and I'm sure its normal for rotary's, get a good pipe and it sounds awesome!

I've had mine 2 weeks tomorrow, it's a 231 and it's only done 11k (12k now actually..oops!) and it pops a lot cold and warm! I'm no expert but mine runs very smooth and is the same speed as my mates 231..so I'd say it's perfectly normal!

Keep an eye on the oil levels as you will have been told 50 times lol, I check mine twice a week just to be on the safe side. It doesn't use much but I'm told it can be random, not use much then use a lot, so best to keep your eye on it imo

Mine pops at cold too. Not sure why though, it's never worried me so I've not looked into it.

Well thats just fine then, it certainly pulls smoothly and no problems anywhere else just wasnt something I had come across, so thought I would check. I pick the car up in the morning, looking forward to my drive home. Thanks for the feedback!

How odd, I have literally just noticed this noise for the first time. Glad to know it is normal, now to sort out a louder pipe!
