Right Chaps,

Reading Garlicks thread in GG about a cheap V8 has got me thinking about the Soarer. Not really considering buying one as of yet (maybe in the future sometime as a car for me and the missus if funds allow). Just generally want to know your thoughts on these. I'm not really interested in the 2.5TT, was thinking more about smooth, reliable, relaxed driving with a 4.0 V8. I have sat in a few but have never driven one. Over to you.

Can't comment on the V8, but I had a 2.5TT for a while and it was a lovely car.
Rapid, refined, comfortable, quiet and the build quality is amazing.
The one I had had been modified to run circa 325bhp, and could be a little bit tricky in the wet, but apart from that it was a great car, made the two Imprezas I had feel horrible in regard to interior and build.
The V8s are a bit more your lazy m'way cruiser, but still plenty quick enough and generally with more toys. The active air suspension models are very rare and sought after, but expensive when they go wrong apparently.
Definitely recommended though.

There are 3 different V8 Soarers.

The UZZ30 is a coil sprung model and is generally fairly basic inside, these are very rare in the uk, more because the 31 is the pretty cheap in japan and as a gt its nice to have better suspension for a smoother ride. Has normal top mounts when looking under the bonnet. No switches between the gear lever and ash tray.

The """31 has Tems, Toyota electrically modulated suspension iirc. This is like airbags. Can Have a high or low spec. These have 2 switches between the gear lever and ash tray. Probably the most common version over here for V8's. Spec on all Soarers can vary wildly, check on the car you look at if you want something specifically. Underneath the bonnet they have tems on each strut top and are raised against the 30's flat top mounts.

The """32 is top of the range. Only 873 were made of this version and they were very expensive. They use a mix of fluid and IIRC Nitrogen. They give a VERY smooth ride, and the active suspension is also designed to keep the car flat. IE if you accelerate the car will not squat, if you brake hard the nose will not dive and the car has no sideways roll. These cars are very rare and can be expensive to run. They also have 4 wheel steering. They are also the heaviest Soarer and thus the slowest but there cornering ability is vast for a car of their size. IIRC they just have a switch to alter suspension height. They should have a touch screen for stereo and heater settings etc. Under the bonnet this has an extra fluid top up and dipstick on the o/s wing as well as rubber mounts over the top mounts with a kind of metal knuckle with a sponge covered pipe on them . You will notice the extra pipes in the engine bay that are carrying the fluid to the shocks.
