NISSAN SKYLINE - NEED HELP

[M30 GOT]

I am in the market for a Nissan Skyline. Preferably R33. I have always been a BMW fan personally and subsequently had various BMW’s including two E36 M3 EVO’s.

The “Mrs” now wants to get an X5 so I’ve decided to put the E46 M3 on the back burner and “try some different fruit” – quote Gazboy .

I have never had a car that has had forced induction so I am very excited about this.

I have been in a Supra TT and a MR2 T and both were great but I have always wanted a Skyline. Unfortunately, I know nothing about the different models of R33 so need some help from anyone in the know.

It must be a manual turbo or twin turbo. So what’s the best one to get for circa £8k?

Not the biggest fan of R33 GTRs. Bit big looking. I love the R32's. Funnily enough i'm selling mine to get an E46 M3 as i need something a bit more sensible. R32 GTR's are starting to overtake R33's in price as well. Proper Clasic!! http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/978198.htm

First you need to decide if you want RWD or 4WD. Don't worry too much about the GTR (4WD Twin Turbo) having slightly better performance/suspension set-up than a GTST (RWD Single Turbo) in stock form, because you can quite easily tune a GTST to above GTR spec in both power and handling for less than a GTR if you really want a RWD. Of course they both have their upsides and their downsides...and neither is really better than the other once fettled with, it all comes down to your driving style and the kind of car you want long-term. Most of the GTST's you'll find in decent condition have usually been tuned to Stage 1 or higher with the usual suspension/brake upgrades anyway.

Is the car a daily driver and do you have a 4WD/RWD preference?

Horses for courses. £8k will get you an ok GTR GTSTs are going for peanuts at the mo .
We had an R33 gtst for about 4 yrs, & loved it. IMHO the gtst's are looking a little long in the tooth now, but the GTR still looks pretty purposeful to me- best shape imo. Now, we loved the rwd, no abs, no tc malarky BUT when riding around in other peoples GTRs I did get that sense of a much more "planted" feeling, which wasn't as sensitive to "driver input abuse" whereas the rwd could certainly be a little scary.

I got a Mk 1 1.8 mx5 now a love it to bits- go figure.!

Problem is there is so much trash out there at the moment and prices reflect that , you can buy a GTST for £3k now but it will be the bottom of the barrel bit like £7k GTRS, there are some great R32's in your budget on the GTROC but again condition is key , a good standard car is approaching 15 years old and if it hasnt been modified or upgraded will need a fair bit of cash spent on it i have to say i wouldnt want a £8k GTR i would be looking at spending a bit more like £9.5 and get a nice one

Liner 33, I kinda agree with what you're saying about prices, but there are still good cheapish example to be had, esp as people are so worried about ca$h these days.
