Galant Info?

Good morning!
Not ventured in to this section very often but thought I'd dip my toe and ask for some help!
Spotted this on autotrada and always liked the look of them when I was younger and now thinking it might make a good cheap motor!
What does anyone know about them? are they 4 wheel drive or is that just the 2.5V6, do they handle well etc etc?

Only the VR-4/Legnums are 4-wheel drive. The 2.5-V6 and other run of the mill versions are fwd.

My sister had a V6 version for a while, it was nice to drive but wasn't exactly a thrilling handler. It felt as big as it was so didn't really encourage you to throw it into bends. Engine was nice an smooth and pulled very well, manual gearshift was notchy and quite pants though, all of this is in comparison to the 1.6 Vectra I had at the same time mind you. It was very roomy and comfortable, a nice place to be for a long journey.

I was sure the old 2.5 V6 had 4wd as well as 4 wheel steering! not sure if the 2.0V6 had 4wd though.

I'm absolutely sure that only the VR-4/Legnum variations came with 4wd.

My sisters car was the 2.5-V6 and that was definitely fwd. I might be wrong with this one, but I also don't know if a 2.0-V6 model was for sale in the UK, I think the UK 2.0's were only 4cyl engines.

I'm also referring to the 97-2003ish models by the way in case you're looking at different gen to this

There were some other JDM 4wd models but no UK cars.

Pop over to Club VR4, it's friendly and there's lots of knowledge and enthusiasm for all flavours of Galant.

My Dad bought one new and lost a fortune.
A 2.5 V6 in black, I think it was a 51 plate at the time. He paid £17000 which was discounted.
Sold it for about £5000 3 years later.
They are only front wheel drive and it was the top spec UK model, although I think they did bring some UK VR4s into the country around that same year.

This is the one I am thinking of which is a previous generation! Im sure they did a 4x4 4 wheel steer 2.5! just cant find out anywhere.

I got a worse one than that! My Pa bought a 2000 galant "sport" new, they allegedly only bought a few in per year (the local bib had one unmarked on motorway duty) 155mph but still FWD and auto (not a bad auto but still not good!) he paid near on evo money by the time it had been sent for a retrim (no leather option from mitsi for the sport) it's worth all of about 2K now if he's lucky! A VR4 of the same age would have cost about the same to buy and service and would be wqorth about twice as much, an evo would have been doable too and be worth about 8K! Lesson learned there!

That's a 7th gen one.

There was a VR4 version with twin turbo version of the 2.0l V6, 4WD and either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed INVECS tip/auto. There was also a 2.5 NA V6 but I'm fairly sure they were all FWD - Mitsubishi have a quite bewildering range of variants for different markets.

I don't think it had 4ws, but the previous 6G version did, along with an 2.0 I4 turbo motor in the VR4 homologation model.

The rallying effort moved to the smaller lighter Lancer (Evo) with the release of the 7G Galant so there are fewer homologation goodies and more luxury on the 7G...

In the 8G Galant you have the FWD 2.0 GLS, FWD 2.4 GDi, FWD 2.5 V6, 4WD 2.5 V6 STR and the full fat 4wd 2.5 V6 Twin Turbo VR4.

Although, the VR4 came as a 2.0 16v TT 4wd in the 6G and 2.0 V6 TT 7G variants. I 'think' the 6G had a 4WS option available to it when new, although I may be wrong.
