Seriously though:
When I picked up my significantly more elderly STi i made them throw in a Cam belt change as a) its a bar-steward to change and b) if the engine lets go it really lets go...if its done lots of miles get it done...
You'll probably love the car when you drive it but resist and have a good look around before you commit.

These 2.5 wagons are very torquey and you'll love the low down response. Plus it's practical and will do about 20-25mpg, maybe a bit less initially as you enjoy the power your right foot commands frequently, specially overtaking 
As long as for an 06 it's not only immaculate throughout, has a full dealer service history, comes with 1yr warranty that you haven't had to pay for as the initial 3yr warranty from the factory has probably run out by now, and drives like it just left the factory with no knocks bangs,clanks or otherwise you should be absolutely fine.
Ignore the odd tiny interior rattle as Subaru's don't have the best bolted together interiors in the business, but then again you don't buy scoobys for anything other than what they do best, and that's get you from A-B as quick as you like, with 4x4 supersafe surefooted traction and relative comfort.
With PPP you get 265bhp as per a standard STi, a very nice to use 5spd box and you'll be happy in the knowledge that your car has the potential to embarrass much more exotic and expensive machinery both on acceleration and around the twisties.
Enjoy your PPP WRX for what it is, you won't be disappointed

Truth be told it was 2 years ago when I had my old Impreza. 50k cambelt service was definitely over 600 notes then, so I assumed it would be more now.And no I wasn't 'robbed' as you so eloquently put it.
