Hyundai coupe .... advice please

Hi, For some strange reason I'm being drawn towards buying a Hyundai Coupe, prob the series 3 version. either a 2.0 L or the 2.7 V6. MY2003 - 2006
Has anyone got any feedback on what to look for, anything positive or negative. What they are like for servicing / running costs & general everyday running.
What to look for, any weaknesses in the powertrain or cosmetics, rear seat room etc.

The 2 litre can't pull the skin off a rice puddin' and the 2.7 isn't exactly a ball of fire amd that comes from my litle sister. She likes hers though but had to have the 2.7 when she went in for a 2.0.
Quite how they only manage to get 165bhp from a 2.7 V6 is beyond me but there you go. Didn't Evo have one and change most of it?
I like the look of them, I think the blue ones are quite a limited run so nice if you can find one.
She has had the whole alarm system replaced as it kept locking her out but likes the 5 year warantee. I don't think she has used it mind. Back seats are useable and the boot's a decent size.

I was roped into helping someone to look at these the other week, so here is what I found out (at least on the 2.0 cars)...

- Services are needed every 10k miles, and a lot of them seemed to have patchy/non-existent history
- Cambelt should be changed about 50k miles
- Clutches are either weak or have a very high biting point as standard
- Wheelarches seem to rust a lot
- Check all the buttons/switches work inside, especially for the cooling fan which apparently has a habit of losing fan speeds 1, 2, and 3

They seemed like a nice enough car but not really a drivers car, more a hatchback with nice(r) bodywork. Emissions are high for not massive performance so check what tax band they're in.

I've got a Celica myself...190 version...plenty of info on here about it.

Cheers guys for the feedback, Still undecided on what to go for, Want a 4 seat sporty looking thing, nothing too flash. the Hyundai ticked the boxes in looks wise, but looking at Celica's & Integra's too, just not sure what to go for. It may just be a phase I'm going through.

Driven the Celica 190 T-Sport, The Coupe 2.7 and the Integra Type-R. Ended up with the latter. The Coupe would be a distant 3rd place out of that lot IMO.

if i was you mate i'd treat yourself to an st205.if you can find a nice one and dont mind paying a bit to keep it running ie servicing/fuel.they look awesome are rapid and are solid beasts.do it.lol

So much crap from people that have probably never owned/sat in one.......

The Mk 111 two litre is fine,...fast, over 130mph, economical, cheap to insure, cheap to buy, long warranty, quite good looking, the only downside is VERY poor headroom in the back seats for tall people.........

Don't bother with the 2.7V6, it's not much faster and thirsty.............

I dont see how you can call a 2.0-litre fast? The 2.7 I drove may not have been "much faster" than a 2.0-litre, but it too was definitely not fast. Good looking though, and the warranty is good, but I didnt really like the interior, and it didnt feel too much different to say, the Vectra GSI I drove not long before, didnt really feel as sporty as it looks. YMMV.

Sorry WR but I drove them both when my little sis was looking and the 2.0 was soooo slow. The 2.7 was better. Was it quick, no but quicker yes and noticeably so. No idea about mpg but almost inevitably the 2.0 will be better, fine if that's important.
For what they are they seem fine - a decent price, decent looks, reasonably priced and the warranty is a good back up.
Rear head room is poor but then it is a coupe, I guess its par for the course and I've been in worse which are only 2+2s. For occasional use they'll do.

Hmm, lots of "off the cuff" comments here, which is what I would expect from "some" people.
I'm not one for total "banzai" motoring, I can get that & more at work. All I really want is something that is a little different to my present boring old Mondeo for a reasonably modest price. I don't want a "hot hatch" nor a 2 seater as I still have another family car which can cope adequately . I haven't sat in one of the Hynudai's yet, it may not even suit me for all i know, just that I like the look of the series 3 coupe.
My initial request was aimed at current or past owners who have one and really wanted to know what they are like to live with on a day to day basis.
I'm still open to persuasion as to what car to get next, hence I also said about the Integra & the Celica. It's that type of car I am after, so if anyone else has an idea then fire away.

Buy an Rx8

Its got 4 proper seats, a LSD and a good sound system as standard.

P.s. It looks amazing as well.
