Legacy 2.5 or 2.0R?
Discussion
Hi
i am looking at getting a Legacy, probably the 2.5 manual, although they are quite rare. I notice that the 2.0R engine was upgraded to similar power as the 2.5 of 165bhp. Has any one got either of these cars - what are they like in terms of performance and economy? which would be the better option?
Any comments would be much appreciated.

I've had a couple of older 2.0 Legacies - a '90 VZ (150bhp) and '97 TS-R (155bhp). The 2.5 does have noticably more torque low down, I know the 2.5 autos are significantly thirstier but a manual shouldn't be too different to the 2.0.
For what its worth I was hoping for a Legacy RX wagon (NZ-spec 2.5 manual with dual ratio AWD) when I bought the TS-R instead as I couldn't find a manual 2.5.
Owning a GTB now I don't think I'd go back to the NA, average fuel consumption is similar at ~27mpg, best I've had out of the GTB over a tank is 33 compared with 37 for the TS-R.
